What is the easiest way to move 2 cats and 2 dogs from WI to WA? Least stressful and cost efficient?
Answers:
try to do practice trips with the cats (not to the vet, but just around the neighborhood and for longer times) -
at first they will always equate the car with vet (as thats typically the ONLY time they go in the car) but with time, they will relax and calm down
(my vet is 30 minutes away and my cats cry for like 10, then sleep the rest of the way, i have them in carriers (i take them 1 at a time because its easier) next to me on the passenger seat.)
but the more practice that they have in the car, the more relaxed they will be with the situation.
I would suggest driving, dogs usually enjoy road trips. As for the cats, I'd put them in cat carriers, and hopefully, they'll start to enjoy the ride. Some cats need to be sedated for long drives, depends on the cats.
umm i would drive because u can stock up on gas beforhand and just bring a tank with you so while your on the way you may just need to refill 4 or 5 times
If you are driving from WI to WA then by car is the most efficient way. I moved 14 cats, 1 dog, and 1 horse from AZ to NC then 14 cats 1 dog, 4 horses, 1 fish, and 4 hamsters from NC to NJ and by car is the easiest because you know where they are and that they are not in trouble and the only expense you incur is gas money and the cost of the cages
Ship by air. And have your vet sedate them, or they usually give the meds to you so that you can give them to the cats at the correct time. Easist way I've ever seen, unless your cats have gone on trips with you before. Ours went camping with us!
If you are planning on driving, then have them in the back seat of your car. Cats are usually quiet so they can roam around the car. If you have a small/medium dog, then you can put them in a crate. But stop at least once an hour, to let them out to go to the bathroom, and sniff around. If the start crying, then give em' a little love. Big dogs, should be separated if you are taking to cars. The stopping is the same for both sizes.
Are you driving?
If you are there are drops, natural, you can ask at the pet store to help them relax and sleep during a trip. Of course they have to have a crate to secure them during the trip.
Ask the vet he should be able to help with that. This could be very stressful for the animal as well.
