What's wrong with my 2 year old cat?

We went on our two week honeymoon. MIL came over every other day to check on our cat and kitten.
Our 2 year old cat seems to be overly thin, lies in the same spot all day. Does eat normal, will sleep in the bed. We are conderned, we have an apt with our vet tommorow, but just curious to hear some educated guesses on what could be wrong...
Depression?
Sick?
Nervous/Anxiety from us being gone?
He is an indoor/outdoor cat, but has not want to go outside that much recently.
Please let me know what you think.
Answers:
I think he is suffering from anxiety/fear of you guys being gone for a while. He may not be getting enough attention and is confused. He might have been upset/confused with the strange in the house checking on them, as cats are temperamental.
Don't let him out anymore. Cats whoc are outdoors live shorter lives and subject to many hazzards to their health like:
*Parasites: worms (heartworms are fatal mostly), fleas, etc.
*Diseases ( rabies, feline AIDS and leukemia.)
*Cat fights: even if it's minimal and the cat goes under surgery he or she can die from shock.
*Other animals: coyotees and raccons are big concerns. Many a cat have been lost to these other animals.
Take him to the vet, and watch him closely. Rapid weigh loss is a red flag something is seriously wrong.
It's great he's eating, but have you noticed any barfing? He could have an obstruction which, if not treated, will result in a costly vet operation. Or, he could have tape worms which live in the intestines and feed off of the nutrients there. It will make him nutrient defiecent and weak. If you see and worms come out of his but kill it right a way! It could affect you. Take a fecal sample to the vet so they can examine it for worms.
Good luck, hope this helps!
If the cat is eating and still loosing weight the first thing they will check for are worms in their stomach. The worms will eat their food in their stomach slowly starving the cat.
You can check his stool for worms.
This is just one option. I am sure they will check for many things.
a lot of the time pets have separation anxiety.. he may be recovering from that
He probably is just nervous from having a stranger in the house and give him a couple weeks to get use to you again,we have this problem with our cats everytime we go on vacation.
she is probely very tired or mad that she does not get enough attention or she might have kittens. take it 2 the vet
this kind of reminds of someting that happened to my dog.
my dog may not be a cat, but he acted similar to your cat and we found out he was missing something, we haven't paid too much attention to it since our family went on vacation last month and came back our dog was acting weird. Your cat probably is dealing with depression or feels something isn't the same.
Cats are very temperamental, especially when their owners go away for any length of time. They can easily get depressed, refuse food and water, and become dehydrated. Definitely take kitty to the vet, and get him checked out. Also, have you moved recently? Moving is really hard on cats. Mine started peeing in the strangest places, and stopped eating altogether when we moved.
Many cats will stop eating if their owners are away. Cats hate change and get depressed when things change. He had no way of knowing that you would be coming back after 2 weeks. I would definately see what the vet says though.
it could be any of those things, cats often become depressed when their owners leave for more than a day. But it's also a sign of illness, it's good you're taking him to the vet tomorrow, good luck! (don't let him outside anymore - read my answer on indoor/outdoor cats a couple threads down and you'll understand why!)
It could be that he has picked up a flu bug or I hate to say it but he may have worms. I don't mean to sound nasty but look at his stool when he uses the litter pan. If he is eating normally but staying thin that would be my guess. The good news is that they are easily treatable. The bad news is it makes for a miserable kitty.
Aahh... he probably missed you when you went away. I'm glad you have an app - best to check! I have a cat who kept calling out to check I was there last time I left him!
My cat had similar symptoms. He lost some weight and a few weeks ago he stayed in my bed in the same spot for about 2 days and didn't get up to go out or eat. He seemed sick and he wasn't acting normal. We took him to the vet and the vet said he might have eaten something dead outside and that he probably had an infection. The vet gave him a shot and some antibiotics. He's much better and back to normal. I hope your cat will be okay!
I could be a tapeworn. lots of cats get em. its real easy to treat. he could have just been depressed my dog wont eat but a couple bites when I have to go out of town.
good luck.
it could be depression and might still be scared having a stranger in the house. is this the first time you left your cat alone? if not then it should already be used to being alone. if yes then it might just be scared.
hope everything is alright! :)
