She regularly and consistently licks her own cooch (private area below butt). She is a 3 year old spayed female, gray and white. Her cooch area is white as well (normally). For the last month or so, the hair around that area has been blackish looking. Could that be caused by excessive saliva? Anyone have any ideas as to what can be causing her to lick there so much? Other than the strange licking and black looking hair, she seems perfectly happy and healthy. She is overweight too, probably 16-18 lbs.
I obviously plan to take her to the vet so telling me I should do so is unnecessary. Just trying to get some ideas.

Maybe diabetes. Don't know really just a guess but diabetes would cause more sugar in the urine that could be irritating her.
Or she could have crystals or stones in her urine.
The darker hair could be from blood in the urine.
It's a shame that you are a irresponsible pet owner it may be a infection you need to give her a bath and take her to the vet you are too cheap to take her why have a animal if you are so cheap that you can't spend 50.00 to get her checked out?

normally when animals lick themselves the hair turns a brownish-red color, not black. Perhaps she has a urinary tract infection or crystals in her urine causing irritation. Have you noticed any changes in her bathroom habits? (going outside the box, going more frequently than normal, seeming painful, urinating only small amounts, blood in the urine). Altered cats seem to be more susceptible to urinary crystallization. That means she's probably got a mild block in her urinary track. It's not uncommon at all. Nothing serious unless you let it go untreated. She should go to the Dr. soon. Other wise she'll start peeing in hidden places out of spite. Always make sure she has clean water %26 make sure you wash the bowl out { no slimy stuff in the bottom.} Good Luck.
