What kind of cat do I have?

It is supposed to be a pure bred something. It has the physical features of a Maine Coon and the hair of a Devon Rex.
Answers:
you could bring it to a vet and they should tell you
(a picture could help us)
I don't know, sounds like a Devon Rex. They have unique hair. Without a pic it would be impossible to know. On this page for the breed they get about 9 pounds, not close to 20 like Maine Coons.
http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/de...
You have a Hybrid. A "Maine Devon CoonRex"

What kind of cat do i have?

He is a boy cat, white/cream with orange tinted ears, orange striped tail, orange freckel looking spots on his forhead and orange spots on his feet. He is a big cat and he has lots of extra skin. skin not fur. his fur is not fluffy but it is thick Bright blue eyes. and a regular perfect cat face meaning not flat and not long just perfect. oh and he has a pink nose. he is so pretty he has to be something cool. he came to my appartment beaten and starved. and there are absolutly no other cats like him around. anyway its driving me crazy, if someone knows please let me know
Answers:
if you had a picture, it would be easier to tell. go to the bookstore and look up a cat breed book, you might be able to find it in there.or take him to the vet (especially since he came to you beaten and starved) and maybe have him a check up and probably the vet will be able to tell you what breed your cat is!
Picture??
sounds like a Fine Cat...of the phylla Finus Catus...
if i had such a cat i would name him brother fine cat.
Yeh to me it sounds like a tiger. Picture would help.
sounds like marmlelaid i think i spell it wrong its a orange cat or with orange this is just my idea i could be wrong.
He could just be a Domestic Mix... usually people don't abandon purebreds.
hmm, sounds like a cat, lol. it might be a ragdoll if ears and tail are a different color than the body.
Your kitty sounds like a Flame Point Siamese.
Most cats are either Domestic Shorthairs, Domestic Mediumhairs or Domestic Longhairs..depending on hair length. Your cat would only be an acutal "breed" if you acquired it from a specific breeder and paid a lot of money for it.

What kind of breed is my kitten?

I have pictures of my kitten when he was about 4 1/2 months old on catster now he is almost 6 months but it is pretty recent. I was hoping if you could tell me what kind of breed my kitten is. Also I give my kitten Iams Kitten Food and from the time we first got him he has doubled his size it seems. I don't know if it is just he is growing or what but he has gotten fat!
http://www.catster.com/cats/566982...
Answers:
Your kitten is a mixed breed. His colour is red and his pattern is mackerel tabby. So you can call him a "red mackerel tabby domestic short hair". :-)
Talk to your vet about his diet. If he is becoming overweight then there are a few things you can try.
1--Don't free-feed. Give him measured portions according to the instructions on the bag for his size two times a day. Don't leave food out.
2--Switch to canned food which has more meat, fat and water -- all good for cats -- than dry food which is high in useless carbs.
3--With your vet's direction, he may already be ready to switch to a good adult formula cat food. I'd recommend easing onto Iams Adult food if you have already tried the previous two recommendations with no luck. Do not feed a growing kitten "light" cat food.
Enjoy your kitten! If you choose to, you could show him in the household pet class at a cat show. He must be neutered first though.
Hey that looks like my cat! Exactly lol!
Its a orange and white tabby(domestic shorthair)
aww how cute..he looks like my cat deeogee
well u had it right on the profile
hes a shorthair tabby
I believe what you have there is a red tabby, he's a domestic short hair. And he's very cute! You could probably change him over from kitten food to adult food if he's getting too fat. And don't forget to get him neutered if you haven't already!
I feed my kitten Purina kitten chow. It says you are only suppose to feed up to 3/4 cup a day of kitten food. Maybe he is eating to much and that is why he is getting over weight. Oh and try to get him to burn off some calories through play.
Very cute tabby cat. Get him off the kitten food.lots of fat in it for growing kittens. Go 50/50 with kitten and adult until he gets used to it. Neuter your cat!
He looks like my oliver, I just rescued a 5 month old kitten, I have been taking care of him and momma cat since the kitty was born. Orange and brown stripes just like yours he's what's called a TABBY I think they habe beautiful colors and that little heart shapped face.
MP
its a orange tabby
aww poor kitty i would hate to get neutered u have no need to live without them really

What kind of breed is my cat??

here is a link to a picture of her:

what breed/breeds is/are she?
Answers:
chech her out here http://www.cfa.org/breeds.html
i think she is a ragdoll
she lokks like a ragdoll but could be a fluffy calico
Hard to tell without being able to see the eye color, body, and tail. Looks like a Maine Coon or maybe a Ragdoll mix. She has tortie coloring on her face though.
long haired calico cat.. sort of like the ones that hang around our alley
She is a tortie and white Domestic Medium Hair.
Definately a lng haired calico. My, ur cat is gorgeous!!
Those who are saying that she is a long haired calico are wrong. Calico is not a breed but a color pattern. When a pedigree is not available, the breed designation is "Domestic" Here is what the Wikipedia has to say about it: "In strict terms, a purebred cat is one whose ancestry contains only individuals of the same breed. A pedigreed cat is one whose ancestry is recorded, but may have ancestors of different breeds (almost exclusively new breeds; cat registries are very strict about which breeds can be mated together). Cats of unrecorded mixed ancestry are referred to as domestic longhairs and domestic shorthairs or commonly as random-bred, moggies, mongrels, mutt-cats or alley cats." Your cat has medium-length hair, so you would refer to your cat's breed as "medium-hair domestic"
Without a pedigree, or at least a good look at your cat's parents, it is impossible to say what breeds formed its antecedents. There are several breeds with the characteristic of medium length hair, but it is also possible to get medium hair in the offspring of a long haired cat and a short haired cat.
Try this site I think it will help you.

What is your opinion on house cats, is it cruel to keep them indoors?

Answers:
Cats are America's most popular pets, but they are also the pets most likely to die prematurely from diseases, poisons, attacks by other animals, abuse by humans, or speeding vehicles. The reason is simple: Owners often don't realize that allowing their cat to roam outdoors can be a one-way ticket to trouble.
Millions of cats suffer and die because their owners give them free reign to roam the neighborhood. The vast majority of these owners aren't cruel or thoughtless; many love their animals as much as the rest of us. They just believe that cats are happiest outdoors. In fact, many cat caregivers acquired their felines by "taking in" or caring for someone's cat who was allowed to stray.
A Dangerous Tradeoff
When cats are left outside unsupervised, their freedom to roam comes at a cost because they have a vastly increased chance of being injured, becoming ill, or even dying. The estimated average life span of a free-roaming cat is less than three years鈥攃ompared to 15鈥?8 years for the average indoor-only cat. Even the cat who only occasionally ventures outdoors unsupervised can fall victim to automobiles, predators, disease, and other hazards. In fact, two out of three veterinarians recommend keeping cats indoors, most often citing dangers from vehicles and disease.*
Even cats in "safe" suburban neighborhoods can meet untimely fates and never return home. Fewer than 5% of "found" cats taken in by animal shelters are reunited with their families. That's why many shelters now require potential adopters to commit to keeping their cats safely confined and strongly recommend that cats wear collars and ID tags, and even be implanted with an identifying microchip. Some communities are adopting ordinances aimed at encouraging owners to confine their cats鈥攋ust as they do their dogs.
Home Is the Best Habitat
So what is best for your cat? The HSUS's Safe Cats campaign was created to help you keep your cat safe and happy by making the great indoors both interesting and comfortable. The campaign can teach you how to "bring the outdoors in" and enrich the life of your cat. There are lots of things that you and your cat can do together for fun鈥攁nd you will have longer to enjoy one another if you keep your cat safely confined in his natural habitat: the home you share.
*HSUS veterinarian study conducted in June 2001 by Jacobs, Jenner %26 Kent.
Not at all! If anything, it's an act of love. Our cats were born to a wild momma, but haven't been outside since they were very tiny indeed. And they're the only ones left alive from the entire lineage: The rest of them got sick or poisoned, and had to be caught and carried away.
I don't think that is a fate you would wish on a loved pet.
tthats what my mom thinks and she wont let me have one..but my dad and i disagree like seriously..the cats whole family is indoor it shuld be in their genes already like seriously
its not cruel at all they just need a little space, not like just one room their whole life
no, but i think u should letur cat outside everyday on leash to roam around to hunt and get exercise. Cats love to hunt.
No. Their use to it.
I take my cat outside about 3 times a week %26 I've been doing that since I got her %26 she loves being outside. She'll just sit there %26 watch things move %26 sounds %26 things like that.
Where I use to live this lady had trained her cat to go outside to poop/pee instead of a litter box.
But, it's NOT needed to take your cat outside.
nope - not if it keeps them alive..
a cat is much like a 5 yr old child, people need to realize this and treat them the same.
cars are only one risk - fights with other cats, fleas, worms, diesease, and angry neighbours all pose risks to outdoor cats.
if you want to let your cat out - you can leash train it on a harness or build a cat section.. this is what I did when I lived in the city - build an area next to my house out of 2x4's and chicken wire.. with a gate on one end so I could enter - I had a window I could open for them to go in and out of.. and shut the window at night so they could only be out in the day time.
indoor cats face a lot less danger of death than indoor cats do. and unless they escape, it's not as though they know what they're missing. I've had outdoor and indoor cats, and they both seem just as happy, but with indoor cats they don't leave the rats they kill as "presents" on my doorstep.
as long as you play with the cat and treat it well, there is no reason an indoor cat doesn't have a happy and full life like an outdoor cat would, if not better.
Some things a cat would "miss" if they never go outside:
-Being ran over by a car
-Becoming prey for something bigger
-Fighting over territory, mates, etc.
-Diseases that can easily be prevented by vaccines
-Infections from wounds, etc.
I've read that an outdoors cats' lifespan is 2-6 years.
Indoor cats'? Can be up to 20 years!
No, I can't stand people that let there cats roam around outside. If I have to keep my dog on a leash or chain then people with cats should do the same. My children have been bitten by cats roaming around and they weren't strays. Also, cats get diseases outside and hit by cars. Take them for walks if they need fresh air (On a Leash!)
House cats generally live 5-10 years longer than outdoor cats.
House cats:
- don't get hurt fighting with other cats
- don't get attacked by dogs
- don't get attacked by wild animals
- don't get shot by idiot neighbors
- don't get hit by cars
- don't get teased/tortured/tormented by obnoxious children
- don't get picked up by animal control and euthanized if not claimed
- don't get sick/poisoned eating something they shouldn't
- don't get caught in car engines on cold winter days
Not only is it better for the cat to stay inside, but also for the wildlife. People forget that domesticated cats kill more species of small animal than any other animals. There are a lot of areas where this is becoming a problem with bird populations and others small animal populations. Look it up, there is a lot of information. Cats do just fine inside. If you worry about thier hunting instinct, hide toys/food around the house for them to hunt.
No it is not cruel to keep a cat inside because they live longer and they don't get killed by people and cars.
I have my cat inside because of:
Coyotes
Mountain lions
Bears
Skunks
oppossums
The people have been told to keep their pets inside because people have found coyotes and mountain lions and bears in their back yards during the day and at night. I live near the hills and mountains.
We have two cats (brothers) that were part of a litter that was left in our alleyway. The others were adopted by various families in and around my neighborhood. We also have a strictly outside cat that sort of adopted us one day about three years ago.
Our two guys never leave the house. He never comes inside.
The outside cat is perfectly happy to stay almost entirely on our property only wandering around the neighborhood on rare occasions. He has a nice cedar cat-house on our large front porch where he sleeps in the winter.
Once, during a bad winter storm my wife tried to bring him inside. He totally freaked when she closed the door. He much preferred to be outside regardless of the weather. He likes to be petted and groomed. He likes to sit on our laps when we sit out on the porch but does not want to come in.
Our two house cats never go outside. If someone leaves the door open for a while they may sniff around at the outside air but don't venture out. I guess one can assume that they are very happy inside our house. It is large enough and they are allowed to wander wherever they want. They both sleep together on a soft chair in the den every night. They share the food bowl, water bowl and litter box with no problems.
What cats like most is consistency. The only thing that upsets them is change.
.
In my opinion, it's the best way for a cat to live, inside. I have seen so many outside cats during the duration of my working with animals it was heart breaking. I've seen cats that were so sick and run down, cats that were hurt in one way or the other from being outside.
It is much healthier and safer to keep cats inside. I have always kept my cats inside and have had one that lived until he was 17 and another that lived until she was 20. Outside cats are subjected to accidents, illnesses and even death and don't live as long as an indoor cat.
The cat I have now is 13 and she's been an indoor cat since they day I took her home from the shelter. She likes to sit on the front porch during the day and bask in the sun. I watch her constantly so she won't wander away. She's good and stays right around my area of the porch and lawn. She is a happy, healthy and safe kitty.
I hope this helps!
not at all i think its better to keep them in side.my worst fear of them being out side it getting hit by a car.so i never let my cats out.but one day lucy did get out and she was missing for 5 days,i looked every where and called her name so many times.i was going to give up casue for a cat thats never been out side, then goes out for fve days, and 3 of the night we had terible lighting storms,i was so worried she had died, then 11 at night i heard meowing and she had come home that has got to be one of my best days of my life..sionce then she has never tryed to get out again
Cats are very good animals, if you take car of them, so in my openion it's cruel to keep them indoors if they are healthy %26 couples

What is your favourite type of cat?

My favourite a persians and siamese for their unique personalities. Also they are very loyal. What is your favourite and why. If you write anything involving cruelty to animals i will report it.
Answers:
Hi Michael...the wonderful thing about cats is that all breeds can be someone's favourite because of their individual personality regardless of breed. Persians, Siamese are wonderful as well as so many other breeds.
My kitties chose me so regardless of their breed background I know I'm their favourite.
I like my big tough tabby cat that I got from the humane society. A regular ol' cat - he's awesome, friendly, funny and cool looking (and knows it).
i like siamese also they have a cute face and coat color but i have to say i will pick a mutt cat over any purebreed cat i think mutt cats are calmer and friendler.
So many cats, so little time... I love all cats, but I think my favorite would have to be a Scottish Fold. They are so cute with their laid over ears and their funny little faces. The ones I have had a chance to spend time with were wonderful in the personality department. Of course, alley cats are awesome too, because you never know what you'll get in looks, personality, and needs. All cats are great in their own way.
I really love tabbies and domestic shorthairs. They don't shed too much, and you can always find them anywhere!
i have many favourite types of cats, i have 4 cats, but my ever favourite is my scallywag hes desexed. a tabby with unusual markings, i named him scallywag as when he was a kitten he got in to so much mischief and when id walk passed him he would go for my feet, hes cute adorable and id never ever part from him, his sister is feisty shes a tabby too. but has white socks and her name is feisty, there aunt is beer, shes a long haired black desexed then theres there uncle sook. a white short haired cat
I have been so lucky to have a stray black cat ,named Sinbad now.He has a tiny patch of white on the end of his tail.
He found us on Cinco De Mayo.4 years ago.Just popped in through the bedroom window and became our cat. He's a big talker, sometimes in the middle of the night he howls and roams around the bedroom. He's my favorite kind of cat,
He picked us as his "humans",and I wish he could talk for just 5 minutes.I'm sure he'd have a great story to tell.
I don't even have to think about my answer! I've been a cat lover all my life and the best cat to own is a Persian, hands down! They are the most beautiful and loyal of all cats. They are docile and loving too. I just lost my 19 year old Persian this afternoon. She was truly an inspiration to me! At a hefty weight of four and a half pounds, she ruled a home with 2 large dogs (90 pounds)! She was truly the "queen of the house" and I will miss her for the rest of my life! She gave me some beautiful kittens in her lifetime- I still have her grandson (the last of the line) whom I hope to have for at least another 6 years before we have to say our goodbyes! Go with the Persian!!

My favorite type of cat is an American Short Hair. I adopted one from a cat shelter when she was five months old and from then on she really has grown up nice. She is adorable and I trained her to walk on a leash, sit, lay down, fetch, stay, and jump up. %26lt;3
I love the Manx for their independence and sassy personalities =)
yes, cats are my favourite type of cat. any cat, every cat, if it is a cat it is my favorite kind of cat.
i've had persians, tuxes, muttcats, and american shorthairs, and they are all wonderful cats
Maine Coon. They are very curious and clever, and they pick one person to lavish all their love on. It's awesome to be that one person.
Hmm...I would have to say Siamese and Colorpoint Shorthairs (or any Siamese cross). I love their personality and how most are quite vocal.
my favorite is an oriental cat they are cute and sweet!!
Every single cat in this world!
Well, I just love my Snowshoe-birma polidactyl cat.
He is my friend and partner in "crime" around the house..
Well trained, extremely finicky for his cleanliness and litter and a superb companion for those long night at the computer.until he decides to remove the keys from the keyboard...
siamese and oriental breeds.

What is your favourite breed of cat?

I love all cats, I love all animals
Answers:
My 2 cats, are just plain moggies but i love them just thee same.
moggie! :)
I like Calico Patterned Cats,Tiger Cats,Tabbies,and Ragdolls.
tabys
i like out shaven
the dead kind !!! mon the DOGS!!
me too. wolf is my fave animal, not sure on cat breed, but i have a russian blue so i think i like those best :)
Moggies!
None whatsoever, they do not appeal to me and have absolutely no use as far as I'm concerned.
I would love to own a British Blue - but I fall for any old kitty sob story and love every one of them!
Current sob stories do actually have a bit of a breed in them though! One is half Siamese (and has the view she is not a cat), the other is half Persian (and has the view she can fly and is waterproof)
So I guess I'm just a moggy person really!
Persians, especially blue Persians and Siamese. As far as color goes I also love orange cats and grey cats. Longhaired cats are my preference over shorthaired.
My grandmother had a black cat that was so huge it looked like a panther cub. He was pretty cool. Big cats are the ****. Hell, get a cougar or mountain lion.
I love all animals as well. ...
fave breed is Norwegian Forest Cat.
Good old-fashioned Moggy. They all have such different personalities and varying degrees of psychotic-ness! (I am yet to meet a 'normal' cat.).
Not quite one special... I own a mixture of many breeds. And thus I can confirm that black cats do NOT bring bad luck.
hate cats they are the only animal i dont like
The Heinz 57, if you can call that a breed... You never know what you're going to end up with.
I don't actually like the look of most pedigree cats! Ragdolls are sweet because of their docile personalities, but I don't necessarily like the way they look!
I am more of a moggie girl! My favourite colourings for moggies are mostly-white calico, silver tabby, all white, all black, all grey, grey and white, and tuxedo!
xx Emmie
cats and fish my your asking some good questions tonight..lol!
Ive got two lovely common old moggies who id rather give my right arm for than see hurting.
I love all cats (apart from man eating tigers) I love most animals...don't like bugs tho...yuck.
domestic black short hair but I like them all
I actually got my cat from a furniture store, she was a young wild stray who wondered into the store. I was purchasing garden furniture and ended up with a wild cat as well. Shes tame now and adorable. Oh shes called JC after the store.
I have a Russian blue. one that is part tiger part Siamese and my son has a calico. all of which are well loved and follow me around everywhere. cats Rule!
plain old moggies
I have one moggie and two Tonkinese. I'd have to say I like my tonks better than my moggie but it is only slightly more. I love all cats.
syimise
Moggies for sure.
For appearance, personality, character, health and friendliness, they great.
All cats are great, all living creatures are great in their own unique way, as far as I am concerned.
Good Question
i love ALL cats but especially like fluffy ones they r soooooo cute!
The Russian Blue and the Silver Tabby are gorgeous cats (I've owned both) but I love all animals, and keep 1 dog, 2 cats, 58 fish, 5 frogs and 6 shrimps.
Well my cats just a moggie but i would love a siamese or a russian blue.
Moggies every time! -- they have tons of character and I've laughed and loved them all my life!!! (We won't talk about the trauma of losing them....)
i have three norwegian forest cat crosses they are very intelligent, sweet natured and fun. they are also very warm on a cold winters night. but it doesn't matter what the animal looks like as they are all god's creatures.
