Whats the differance between male and female cats?
Answers:
Males have a penis and testicles. Females do not.
Males are easier to neuter and more aggressive and bigger in size
Males have male genital organs and females have a uterus instead and they produce babies. Just like humans.
you mean other then the obvious? Personality differences are usually attributed to the breed, not the sex of the cat. But there are generally no significant differences between male and female cats other then the obvious difference in sex.
females can have babys and males cant,
or mayby you mean what to look for, you haft to lift them up and look at their backside
Only one can give birth to kittens.
The male has a penis, the female has ovaries. But in the looks, the male seems more sturdy, more rough-ish features and the female has a bit of more "feminine" look, a more softer look.
Whats the best way to tame a cat?
I've been looking after a cat that was feral at one stage. Her kitten (the others were put down before I got them) is a very friendly kitten that has no problem demanding being patted and stroked by anyone and everyone.
She's progressed too. She spent a lot of time hiding under our bed apart from to come out to use the litter box (!) and now she comes out and eats with our other cats and sleeps in the sun around our home. I have picked her up before - but only when she's rubbing up against other cats and feels secure. I can approach her when she is sleeping on the bed, if i go very slow, and maybe one out of ten tries I can stroke her.
But progress has slowed down, I'd love to tame her down more, she's very soft and silky. She hasn't scratched once - she's a real gem. Does anyone have any tips?
Answers:
First of all, thanks for being patient! I am currently working on a feral mommy. One thing I found very useful was petting the kitty with a back scratcher. It got her use to being touched but she didn't feel like I was invading her space. Someone else suggested Tuna, great idea! Any type of strong smelling moist food is great. The kitty will smell it and come out to get some. When she does talk very softly to her and try to rub her. She will eventually associate petting with good feelings. Mostly just be patient. She may or may not come around. The important thing is that she doesn't sound aggressive!
leaving her alone in a room with out the socialization of the other cats, will make her crave the attention. than you come in and she will want the attention from you. just keep food, water and a litter box in there and that will help her get more friendly with people. it will probably take awhile, but it sounds like you are on a good path.
I've noticed that cats come to you when they need that affection or the other way around ( when they feel you really need it). Most of the time, I think they prefer to have their head messaged rather than the body. Give cats their space. Try to talk to them but not too much; they may begin to talk too much.
I would say you are on the right track. It sounds like she is beginning to trust you. She probably is still timid at times, but since she doesn't scratch, she is not afraid of you. By going slow you are doing the right thing. Cats are only going to do what they want to, you really can't speed up the process until she wants to. So, just hang in there, she sounds like a sweetie.
Just ignore her for a couple of days or weeks. Let her come to you. Finally she will get tired of being ignored, and be more secure and comfortable around you when she is ready.
use a stick, that'll teach her
yes!.here's a tip!....Don't try and tame her, just love her the way she is, cats have a mind of their own..i use to think they were evil and didn't care for them much, now i believe they choose who they get close to!
Wow! I've never really given any thought to untame pets, but you know, it really is more common then you'd think! Here are some tips you can try!
1. Whenever you approach her, make it slow and easy. I see you've been doing that, good job! Just don't scare her at all! Be slow, even talk a bit gently to get her accustomed to your voice.
2. Cats can be jealous creatures, and often you can use this to your benefit. When she's around, stroke and pet your other cats openly. She will get hungry for the attention and come around quickly.
3. Buy some treats or a can of tuna! The best way to a man's heart is through his stomach, and it's the same for a cat. First, put some of the food in her dish where only she will get if. After doing this for a few days (along with her other food) start offering the treats or tuna only from your hand, to the point where she'll have to eat out of your hand or at least approach you for the food. Don't give up, and if she doesn't come the first time, don't just go back to putting the treats in her bowl. Keep offering it to her at different times or before you feed her and when you know she'll be hungry.
4. Be supremely good to her. Talk to her whenever you're around her or see her, blink slowly when you meet eyes with her (it show's that you're relaxed and non-threatening) and treat her kittenly gently to her face. If she knows that her kitten will trust you, she will, too.
Remember, this all takes time! No matter what you do, she'll grow tamer and tamer just living in your house. Try to win her over with as many treats and good food as you can straight from your hand whenever possible.
Good luck to you!
P.S. Pet her for me!
This is a feral cat? You can not tame her.
Wait for her to come to you. Sit in a quiet room with her and read or eat or stare, just ignore her. Don't look for her under the bed or approach her. She'll eventually come to you when she knows that you're not a threat.
When she does come, don't make an effort to touch her. After a few times, you can hold out your hand and let her sniff it and rub against it, but don't move towards her. Then, after a while, she might let you come to her and pet her, and maybe pick her up, but keep in mind that some cats just won't tolerate being picked up and will never be lap cats.
She's got to do it on her terms, though, and you'll have to be patient.
Cats are strongly territorial. She needs three "territories" The first is an absolute safe area, it may be under a bed or in a closet, somewhere she feels completely un-threatened. Secondly, she will establish a range, usually the confines of a home or apartment. And finally, cats need a third area that they can explore while able to retreat to the first or second territory if threatened. In the case of a house cat, the third territory should be established with the use of toys and play time. The only way to further train a cat is to re-enforce observed behaviors. For instance, if you feed your cat when you perceive some behavior that you associate with hunger, the cat will reproduce that behavior to be fed. Likewise, if you give the cat affection/attention when she is docile and relaxed, she will gradually come to make a connection with that behavior which you are acknowledging

What's the best way to stop a cat from urinating in my grandma's bed while she is sick with the flu?
Answers:
drop kick it out the front door
Close your grandma's bedroom door.
Find a tall oak tree and a short piece of rope...the rest writes its self
Have you tried keeping the cat away from your grandma's room?
Close the door.
put it outside
She can probably smell the illness and doesn't like it so she urinates to cover the smell. Keep her out of you Grandma's room until she's better, and then wash and Febreeze everything.
keep the cat away from your grandma! duhh!!!
try cat away spray they dont like the smell, and its good! other than that keep her out of the room and let her have free run of the rest of the house as she/he is dosent want to feel its being bad its just covering the sickness smell which is a nautural instinict.
If you use an enzymatic cleaner on the bed it will remove every bit of the smell. Even if you think it is clean, the cat's sense of smell is much more sensitive than yours and will return to that spot. You can get enzymatic cleaners like Simple Solution or Natures Miracle (there are other brands, too) at pet stores and on line. After it is cleaned up following the directions on the container, you can bring kitty in to see Grandma, but only for a visit. Otherwise, confine the cat elsewhere. Using sprays to repel the cat will also repel you. I find even the citrus ones too strong.
Keep him out of the room. Use a special cleaner to clean the bed and carpet because he will be able to detect the pee smell even though its been cleaned with regular cleaners.
He is distressed at your grandma being ill and is doing this to "act out" his distress.
He has probably developed an association between your grandma's bed and going for a pee. Its very hard to break and the only thing you can do it keep the door shut and clean everything in case he does get in.
We had this problem with our cat who was put to sleep yesterday (he was very ill). He started peeing on the bathroom floor and did it every morning!! We kept shutting the door but the latch didn't close properly and so he managed to push it open! We couldn't understand how we'd shut it every night and then come down in the morning to find out he'd been in there again!
Whats the best way to remove cat hair?
This seems to be the time of the year where my cat leaves enough hair to make an extra cat behind when he gets up from any furniture. I have bought all sorts of brushes to try to keep it under control but nothing works. Has anyone used any brand that worked real well?

Hi,
I have several cats that shed more than others. One of the best products that I've found is from Petsmart.
It is a shedding blade that removes all the dead underlayer of hair. I couldn't believe how much hair came out of my short haired cat. It's called a Bamboo Dog De-Shedding blade but is small enough to work well on cats.
Another product that they have is a small rubber rectangular curry comb. The cats like it, it removes hair PLUS will remove hair from furniture.

Good luck,

we use a lint brush, velor, swipe n area a few times. works better than anting else I've tried. vacuuming sucks. i have 4 cats and am allergic so i shouldn't touch the hair and then anywhere near my face. this works best for me.
My vacuum cleaner, a Bissell, has a special attachment called the "turbo brush" which cleans cat hair like nothing else I have ever seen. It gets everything! It was an $80 vacuum and I don't know if you have the budget but its wonderful.
There are a bunch of shampoos for pets that shed too much, go to your local pet store %26 see if they carry them.
Use a wet paper towel.

What's the best way to keep a bedroom stink-free from cat litter?
I would need to keep the litter box in my small bedroom room! So even cleaning it out multiple times a day would not be enough.
Answers:
If you scoop every time it's used, there should be no buildup of odor. Take the used litter OUTSIDE, not in the indoor garbage which keeps smells hanging around.
One cat shouldn't make that much of a scent difference, unless you let the urine soak the bottom of the litter box. Feeding good food reduces the odor of the poop quite a bit, especially if you feed mostly dry. Any food found at grocery stores isn't 'good food'.
The silver Wysong bag of Vitality is only $8 and is one of the better ones on the market. Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul is $8 too, Royal Canin Siamese 38 is $11, EVO is around $17 but the bag lasts 2 months.
they sell odor free cat litter that also absorbs odor
What type of litter do you use? I have found that clumping litter works best and eliminates odor. Also do you have a closed top litter box or a just a litter pan? The closed litter boxes have filters in them which help reduce the smell and they trap odors inside. I also use some vaccum powder (scented) in the litter box after I have cleaned it and that works great too! You can also plug in a air freshner into the wall socket by the litter box to help reduce odors. Hope these tips were helpful!
Or baking soda, lots of it.But I think they make a cat litter with that too.Won't be cheap.Get cat litter that clumps if you can.One clump and its gone.Thats the easies way.
Place baking soda on the bottom layer of the pan. Buy a good Hepa air purifier. Switch it on high at night.
I've tried everything. Fresheners don't seem to work. The only way is to change it daily. When you change it, scrub the tray with bleach to get rid of any residue and also scrub the floor where it has been.
I have my litter box in my room and I have no problems with odors.
Get an unscented scoopable litter. Scented litter will do little to eliminate the smell and may make the cat aviod the box. Scoopable litter will help you scoop up pee clumps, the biggest culprit in your smell issue.
Use a lot of cat litter and scoop everyday. Dispose of the waste outside your room. If he gets to the bottom of the pan you will have to dump out all the litter and thoroughly clean. Therefore, you should use enough litter so that he does not get to the bottom of the box.
Make sure your room is well ventilated. If your door is always closed with little to no fresh air coming in then the smell is more likely to get trapped. Keep the door open when you can and open a window sometimes
I can sympathize. While living at home with my family, my cats were forced to live in my room with me. I recommend putting a plug in febreez air purifier near the litter box to keep the air clean and use arm%26hammer carpet deodorizer when you vacuum the rug. It works wonders on the smell of a room. You can get both at any mainstream grocery store.
i have my litter box in a small room also and it dosent stink at all use the tidy cats scoop away it is an awsome oder controll for the litter box i prommise you will be happy with the results
I used to use Tidy Cats clumping litter. The clumps used to break apart every time you would try to scoop.. And those little pieces hanging around in the pan keeps it stinking.. I recently switched to Everclean Scented Clumping Litter. Not only does it smell pleasant to humans, but the granules are smaller and softer so cats like it better, too. The only thing is.. It's a little dusty, so you may want to use with an open litter pan. But the clumps don't break apart as easily and haven't broken yet while trying to scoop the box, so I'll be keeping it around. Also, check out "Zero Odor." It's a spray that eliminates odors.. It doesn't cover them up, so it's not scented.. After my cat poops, I spray the zero odor and spray a little bit in the litter after scooping just for good measure. Also, make sure you're scooping at least once a day and after scooping, take the trash OUTSIDE.

What's the best way to give medicane to a cat?
I took my cat to the vet and she had a blather infection. They gave me liquid meds (pain killers) in a kind of eye drop to give here every night. That part I'm not worried about. Along with the pain killers they gave me antibiotics. They're small pills that I have to split in half and give her orally. She wont touch wet food so that method isn't an option. Does anyone have any ideas?
Answers:
try to use a "bulls eye" pill gun. Basically it looks like a syringe minus the needle with a piece of slitted rubber on the tip to hold the pill in place. You stick the pill on the end. Then you get kitty petting her to keep her calm. Press her gently but with pressure on the side of her jaw so she opens her mouth and put the syringe quickly down towards her throat (not to far but back there by her tonsils) and shoot the plunger. Try to do it as fast as you can. Then close her mouth and tilt her head up rubbing her throat for a few minutes . This way she doesn't spit it back up. Don't make this into a panic problem for your kitty though. Make it as stress free as you can. If she jumps down and runs, wait a bit, give her some treats in a while and pet her then try again. I use this method allot and it works great! Its only a few dollars at your local pet store. If the pill is too tiny to fit in the pill gun try crushing it into baby food. Or call your vet and ask if the antibiotic or even one close to it comes in a larger sized pill for the gun or a liquid substitute. He probably gets these calls 10 times a day so don't feel funny .
Good luck with Kitty! Hopefully she feels better soon.
at every pet store ive been to, ive seen these little treats with holes in the middle to put pills. provided that your cat likes the taste of the treats, this seems like it could be really effective and simple solution! goodluck!
well the liquid will be easy, but i had to give my cat pills too, and we hit them in a treat. but after a while, my cat figured it out and ate the treat, then spit out the pill...you could always put it in their mouth and massage their throat, that works too. yep good luck!
This is always fun..I had to give my cat liquid and pills last month..I tried putting it in wet food..yeah, she ate around it..even when it was crushed. I tried putting it in a treat..yeah right, she knew. This is what worked for me-I knelt down and put her in between my legs and put the pill in her mouth..I held her mouth closed gently and rubbed her neck..she would swallow it..she would spit it out if I didn't hold her mouth shut..I had lovely scratches on my legs from her trying to back out..watch those back legs! Good Luck!
If you cannot drop it into the cats mouth while holding it, put it into some milk or something else the cat will drink. This worked for my in laws when their cat had an infection from a bad cut.
hold dah mouth and syringe it in after mixing with some water
Cats love tuna, I give liquid meds in tuna. The only other way is to hold the cat like a baby and you squeeze the dropper of meds in the back of it's mouth, of course it's easier said than done but that's how I do it. Maybe have someone hold the cat while you put the dropper in it's mouth, but make sure to put it in the back so they don't let it run out of their mouth.
My cat likes peanut butter. Putting pills in a sample of peanut butter works quite nicely for me.
Hold by the scruff and the mouth will stay slightly ajar to get the syringe in. Squeeze it in slow to make sure they get it all. They can splatter it everywhere.
the best way is to hide it in food, since she won't eat wet food - try a cat treat,or something she is use to and will eat. you have to be careful, because cats being intelligent, are quick to know if something is in their food,so it has to be well hidden, and watch and make sure she has consumed it. if that won't work, you can slip it in her mouth in the back corner behind her teeth, and shut her mouth - she should swallow it - i don't like that method, but it will work as a last resort. this one is also good - but ask the vet first, depending on the medication, crush the pill and dilute it with water - put it in a medicine syringe (the vet has them) and give it to her that way - put the tip in the back corner of her mouth and squirt it gently, you can flavor it with a bit of crushed food too. i know it is a pain to give a cat meds, especially if they don't like canned food. if it seems too much, ask the vet if there is a wet form of the medication-that would make the syringe/dropper easier to do and they taste good.
good luck, call your vet with questions =)
when its sleeping give it to her
I've also tried the meds in a treat, but cats are smart and have a high sense of smell. The only way that was successful for me was to place a finger on each side of her jaw with a bit of pressure to keep the mouth open and push the meds deep in her throat then massaging her neck in a downward motion. She always hated me after but only for a few minutes. If you want your cat to get healthy you sometimes have to be a bit forceful. It won't hurt.
I have two ideas.
First, you can dissolve the tablet in a wee, tiny bit of water from tuna packed in water, then put that in an eyedropper and squirt it in the same as you do for the liquid meds. Just be sure that the entire dose is dissolved and taken up into the eyedropper.
Pilling a cat is a skill or a knack, and it is acquired. I was never very g ood at it, but I know the technique. You have to hold the cat, then pry the mouth open by inserting your thumb like a lever at the back of the mouth and leveraging the mouth open. You have to be really quick then. Toss the pill in toward the back of the tongue, close the mouth and hold it closed, lift the head and stroke the throat until the cat swallows and then swallows again. The cat will struggle, so you may have to wrap her in a towel with only her head out to do this.
This one is soooo easy. Open her mouth, put the pill way in the back of her throat, close mouth and rub throat. If she squirms alot, wrap her up in a towel but you shouldn't really need to do that.
if you can crush the pill get a pill crusher and then put it in some food or tuna. We gave it to our cats in yougurt. Mine love yougurt.
I would just mix it threw it's food..what else?
Mix it in milk.

What's the best way to get rid of fleas-have 2 cats?
Hello,
I have two cats, and they as well as my house are infested with fleas. It's gotten worse this week as it's been really hot and humid here and I think the fleas are reproducing in the carpets, upholstered furniture... We've been vacuuming. We've given the cats flea baths, and the gel stuff that you put on the back of their neck, and it's supposed to last a month. Neither has worked at all it seems.
I've heard that vacuuming with salt helps?
What should I do to get them out? Are flea collars the best for cats?
Answers:
It does take time to work. I gave Poppy Advantage about 2 weeks ago, and up until Monday I was still seeing the occasional flea. Yesterday there was nothing.
Don't bother with flea collars.
1. Treat the cat. Go to your vet and get either Advantage or Frontline Plus (I went with Advantage).
2. Get yourself a "flea comb" and comb your cat at least once per day. Have a bucket with dish soap in it handy to dunk the comb in and to collect the hair. Fleas can't jump out of the slippery soap. No point in combing them out only to have them jump back on your cat. Flush this down the toilet, pour it down the sink, or dispose of it away from your house.
3. Treat your house. Options are a borate powder product or something that uses diatomaceous earth. Fleabusters (BP), Fleago Natural Flea Control (BP) or Flea Away Natural Flea Powder (DE). Put about a tablespoon of this in your vacuum cleaner bag (or you can cut up a flea collar to put in there. Just follow the directions which will vary by product, but in general you'll sprinkle on the carpet and vacuum up and also sprinkle into cracks and crevices. (I chose Fleago because it's less expensive than Fleabusters. I may also try Flea Away in time).
4. Vacuum as often as possible. Before vacuuming, stomp around the house. This will bring the fleas to life because they'll think there's a tasty morsel out there. Then vacuum those little bastards up. Be sure to use your attachments to vacuum as many cracks and crevices as you can - they love to hide out there.
5. Wash any pet bedding in hot water, and you'll want to be particularly diligent about vacuuming/treating areas where your cat hangs out.
6. Treat your yard. Even if your cat doesn't go outside, fleas may enter your home if they exist in your yard. There's a small chance that you or others may bring fleas in the house with you (although this is unlikely). Get hold of some nematodes to spray in your yard. I believe you only have to do this once per year. These little creatures will eat the flea larva. As one website put it, these critters are too small to hug, but they deserve it! (I had to order this online; I wasn't able to find a place that sells them in my area and didn't feel like calling every place in the phonebook).
Things not to do: Don't use any essential oils on your cat, particularly anything with pennyroyal or eucalyptus. They're toxic to cats. Don't use flea collars. Don't give your cat any garlic/yeast formulations. Don't give your cat lemon baths.
You're going to want to continue treating your home as directed, whether that be sprinkling once per week or once a month. Continue treating throughout flea season (when it's warm). You can stop during the winter months, but start up again in the spring. You'll nip them in the bud!
The key is to treat the environment, not the cat. If you do that, you may never have to apply another flea product directly on them again.
hello my name is Lisa. there is a flea coller or you can give your cat a flea bath to get rid of the fleas i have a dog that had flea intill i game him a flea bath. or you can ask the vet about how to get rid of fleas.
Wow, that's not good. Get your cats some flea collars, that works really well. Then, for your house, get a bug bomb and let it off when there are no animals or people in the house. Good luck. Stupid fleas...
Flea collars are useless. You need to use the Advantage or frontline drops on your cats. Vacuum daily and throw the bag immediately out the door..
I had the same problem I got my cat a flea coller for her and prevented the nasty fleas and giving them a bath should be fine unless your cats don't like water my cats don't so that's why I got a flea coller for her.
get your cats flea collors... or you can burn them bu tthat is gross! ( not the cats! the fleas)
You will have to flea bomb your house and wash your cats with flee shampoo. you will need a place for you and your cats to go for the day in order to bomb you house. Also after you have flea shampooed get flea collars to prevent re-infestation.
Hi,
I have went through a very similiar infestation with fleas. I have a dog and two cats. I remember I tried everything, including putting borax into my carpets! Flea collars, powders and OTC flea remedies dont work at all! The ONLY thing that worked for me was a product called Advantage. You can get it from 1800petmeds.com or Ebay. I bought mine from Ebay at half the cost! I applied it one time to my pets and I havent had a problem since then and that was last year!. It wiped out the entire flea infestation on my pets and the house. Good Luck!
I have 4 dogs, 4 cats and NO fleas. I use and have for 10 plus years frontline plus ONLY, other products don't work well. You have to remember that for the dogs frontline works for 3 months for flea control and one for ticks, the cats you do need to apply every month. I use it every 6 weeks and no problems. 3 days before and after no bath, and also when a bath is needed use regular pet shampoo not flea and tick. Also regular vacuuming works with a fresh bag, it sounds like you are really infested you may need to get a flea and tick killer for the home remember to get under beds, couch's, curtains, hardwood floors, cement, they will hide everywhere. I recommend a product that's a spray with a nylar system which stays in you home for 3 months so when eggs hatch they will die. Hope this helps, just remember next year to apply about May and you should have no problems next season. It will take a while to get rid of a infestation.
There is a company called FleaBusters that came to my house. They put this non-poisonous stuff down into the carpet that erodes the fleas' eggs. They saved my life cuz after a while, you could see the fleas jumping in the air and they were biting ME! You will have to use flea bombs tho. I put one upstairs and one downstairs. I got it from the vet. Then you vacuum and make sure to toss out the bag. You have to do it again 6 weeks later because that's when the new fleas emerge from those eggs. Continue bathing your animals as shampoo and water drown the fleas. What I did with my fish and cats was put them outside in the shade (on my deck) while I bombed. VERY IMPORTANT! Shut the windows when you bomb and at the designated number of hours later, OPEN ALL WINDOWS WIDE! Humans cannot be in the house either when you bomb. Stopping the cycle of reproduction is very important. If your cats are outdoor cats, once this is all done I would make them indoor cats. Fleas bring alot of disease and I have one cat that is allergic to fleas (it's a very real thing and the animal suffers fiercely).
okay whatever u do do not use a flea collar they never work! advantage is the best it is safe and it works excelent!!! i highly reccomend it! also there is a flea powder at walmart that u put on your rug before vacuuming and that also works!
