Whats wrong with my cat?

my cat is 17 years old normally fit and well. this afternnon he was limping on his back left foot he can weight bear but is limping. we took him to the vets who did a blood test which showed slighty raised kidney function but may be normal a he is old. she gave him a injection of pain relieve and we have to go back tommorow. if he has to be xrayed tommorow they will have to sedate him but is he to old for that. any ideas whats wrng with him. no obvious cause
Answers:
He could have injured it somehow, caught in a door, etc, you didn't mention if he goes outside, if so, could have been an attack from another animal or he could have been hit or run over. The x-ray will show more - good luck with this, 17 is advanced age for a cat and you must have card for him very well.
It has alot to do with his age. I mean he is really old. Once cats start to be old these things start to happen to old cats.
It could be arthritis or maybe he fell while you weren't home. The x-ray will tell the vet what is going on. If you are concerned about them sedating him, make sure and ask questions. Never be afraid to ask them anything, that's what they are there for.
Arthritis of the hinds and his leg or hip is bothering him? Maybe just some cat pain killer and not sedating him would be best...
allot of it has to do with his age. he might have just pulled a muscle, tweaked his ankle, or it just hurt from old age and he is favoring it.
I assume you checked his paw and his nails?
If your cat seems to be in pain, you've got to x-ray him whether or not he may not come out of it. Maybe he has osteoporosis and he's broken a bone. If he comes out of the sedation okay, and you find the problem, your kitty could live another 5 years. I think it's worth a try.
I have a kitty at home, an orange domestic short-hair. We at first named her Liberty because we adopted her right around 9/11. that name didn't stick. So we just started calling her gato (cat in Sp) and one day she came in smelly, and my husband started calling her shinky (like stinky). We call her a lot of names, but shinky gato seems to be the favorite. I call her boo a lot. She's my baby (I stay at home all day) and she knows she has to make some biscuits before we can go to sleep. She loves to be carried around. Whatever I'm doing in the house doesn't matter. She just wants to hitch a ride. She was hurt outside last month by some other animal, and the abrasion got infected (it was under her hair and we had no idea it was there). So we took her to the vet, and he gave her an antibiotic and she was back to her own self in a couple of days. I was SO happy. I can't imagine myself at home alone. She brings me comfort.
Enough! I hope your cat makes it. I'd like an e-mail if you'd be so kind. Love him and pat him and give him his favorite dinner. Even let him sleep on your newspaper.:)

your cat may have jumped off the sofa or other furniture and injured his foot or leg. Coupled with arthritis, it can cause some pain.
Since his kidney tests are slightly elevated, ask what you can do to improve his kidney function now as kidney failure is a leading cause of death in cats.
Also ask the Vet to try and do an X-Ray without sedation. My cat is an elder cat too and she has had a few x-rays without being sedated.
Don't worry, your cat should be fine, aches and pains happen to all of us after we age. Ask anyone over 50. LOL

Whats wrong with my cat?

I know, I know, I should ask the vet, and of course I want to, but my mother is not one to favor this cat, and she only allowed her in the first place because she has a job. She is a mouser and bug-eater, she does her job well, but is a dear cat to me.
Heres the deal, She grew up the first six months as a semi-ferrel cat at a fire academy. She had a traumatic experience at the age of two months, where she was lost and starved for two weeks. She made a great recovery and was a normal (but somewhat violent cat) for seven years.
I noticed that she started licking the fur off her stomach this year, and the licking spread to her front arms, inside of hind quarters and now the outside of them.
She sometimes purrs constantly, which is VERY out of character for her. This purring is accompanied by labored breathing at times.
Recently her abdomen has been firm feeling as well.
I'm thinking a long term worm or parasite infection. Im going to try to get her to a vet ASAP.
Thanks you guys.

Going to the vet is best, she definitley has a problem, although I have no idea what it is. I do know that one time my cat got VERY affectionate, out of the blue, not like her at all. She also was vomitting so I took her to the vet, she had had a stroke, the vet speculated that the change in her personality was because she was scared. She couldn't get close enough to me. Also I know that cats don't always purr because they are happy, sometimes they do it when they are in pain. I'm glad you're taking your kitty to the vet. My mom is the same way.
Is she fixed? It sounds like she could be pregnant...
Also, could be allergies or anxiety.
Good luck!
If her abdomen is firm and she is more affectionate it sounds like she could be pregnant.
Don't know what it could be causing her to lick off her fur. Maybe nervousness or stress.
The licking could be allergies or fleas.
The sudden show of affection could mean that she is pregnant. Pregnant cats get real lovey! But I would really call a rescue or something. At least to get her spayed and re released!
Good luck and keep me posted!
A vet visit sounds like a great idea. Cats purr when they are happy but also when they are in pain. The fur loss could be from an allergy..my guess would be flea. It only takes one bite to cause a reaction to a cat that is allergic. And, like people, cats can develop an allergy to anything at any time. It could also be a thyroid problem..that causes hair loss too. I would treat her for fleas with advantage, frontline, or revolution. They can be bought on line or at your vets. Some pet smarts carry advantage.
has there been any change in routine in the home? After my friends boyfriend moved in her normal yet crazy scratch, bite, hiss cat, yet cuddly at times, went a bit mental and licked a patch of fur off himself, stopped using the litter box, used items bought for owner by boyfriend as his new litter box etc... Could be a cry for help, an insecurity, or something is wrong, take her to the vet, if there is nothing medically wrong with her then perhaps you have one unstable kitty on your hands and the vet can offer up suggestions as to how to deal with it especially if there has been any changes in the home. Good Luck, she sounds like she deserves the best after what she has been thru.
Well, you said she was fixed, but a firm stomach means PREGNANT!
As for the licking, my aunts cat's hair fell off due to stress. He had lots of stress because she was redoing the house.
And the breathing makes me think that she is in heat.

Whats wrong with my cat latley?

shes 1/half years shes a lovely cat but recently she been staying out all night long and wont come in, then when she comes in she sleeps all day then back out at night shes not much company at the moment lol
Answers:
Welcome to the world of wild animals. Cats are generally nocturnal, %26 yours is reverting to half wild...not sure you can change that. You will probably make it frustrated if you keep it in at night, but you may have to.
she's reached maturity! basically a cat is in its prime at about 18 months-2 years. this is similar to teenagers during puberty. Like with teenagers, your cat will be out exploring places that previously seemed scary to her. dont worry, all cats go through this and eventually, when she realises she is better off at home, she'll calm down x
Is she spayed? If not its very possible she's in heat, which would explain the long absences.
Keep her indoors and you won't have to worry about it. It is dangerous to let your cat out because she could get hit by a car, attacked by other cats and dogs or worse. Roaming cats are also a threat to the native bird population. I live in NJ and we are having a problem with cats killing a rare species of pipping plover.
Hope your cat is fixed or you'll have little kittens . The wold doesn't need any more. That is normal. I have my cat trained I always call him to come in around 10 pm. . He's a good boy he comes in before it;s even time...Best of luck. Call your cat loudly!
well don't let her outside at night. If u have a kitty door or something she uses to go outside without u letting her out then block it and keep her in for the night.Maybe she'll sleep and then during the day she'll be awake and then just let her out ONLY in ur yard and then make her come back in after like 20 minutes. If ur yard is not fenced in then get a leash and tie it to a tree or something so she can't go out onto the road.Cause at night that could be very dangerous! She could get run over or hit! u never know what some drivers just can't see.Ur cat could be the next target! watch out! bye :D
Yes if you haven't spayed the cat you certainly should. It may be that she's searching for a mate.
But cats are nocturnal, so the going out all night and sleeping during the day is completely normal.
What I've noticed with my two cats, however, is that in time they seem to adjust to their human's schedule. Meaning she may eventually prefer to sleep in the house at night with you.
if you havent spayed her i would go to the vet and first check to make sure she is not pregnant and then spay her. she could be in heat or pregnant.
or if she is spayed, she could just be matured.

What's wrong with my 2 year old cat?

We went on our two week honeymoon. MIL came over every other day to check on our cat and kitten.
Our 2 year old cat seems to be overly thin, lies in the same spot all day. Does eat normal, will sleep in the bed. We are conderned, we have an apt with our vet tommorow, but just curious to hear some educated guesses on what could be wrong...
Depression?
Sick?
Nervous/Anxiety from us being gone?
He is an indoor/outdoor cat, but has not want to go outside that much recently.
Please let me know what you think.
Answers:
I think he is suffering from anxiety/fear of you guys being gone for a while. He may not be getting enough attention and is confused. He might have been upset/confused with the strange in the house checking on them, as cats are temperamental.
Don't let him out anymore. Cats whoc are outdoors live shorter lives and subject to many hazzards to their health like:
*Parasites: worms (heartworms are fatal mostly), fleas, etc.
*Diseases ( rabies, feline AIDS and leukemia.)
*Cat fights: even if it's minimal and the cat goes under surgery he or she can die from shock.
*Other animals: coyotees and raccons are big concerns. Many a cat have been lost to these other animals.
Take him to the vet, and watch him closely. Rapid weigh loss is a red flag something is seriously wrong.
It's great he's eating, but have you noticed any barfing? He could have an obstruction which, if not treated, will result in a costly vet operation. Or, he could have tape worms which live in the intestines and feed off of the nutrients there. It will make him nutrient defiecent and weak. If you see and worms come out of his but kill it right a way! It could affect you. Take a fecal sample to the vet so they can examine it for worms.
Good luck, hope this helps!
If the cat is eating and still loosing weight the first thing they will check for are worms in their stomach. The worms will eat their food in their stomach slowly starving the cat.
You can check his stool for worms.
This is just one option. I am sure they will check for many things.
a lot of the time pets have separation anxiety.. he may be recovering from that
He probably is just nervous from having a stranger in the house and give him a couple weeks to get use to you again,we have this problem with our cats everytime we go on vacation.
she is probely very tired or mad that she does not get enough attention or she might have kittens. take it 2 the vet
this kind of reminds of someting that happened to my dog.
my dog may not be a cat, but he acted similar to your cat and we found out he was missing something, we haven't paid too much attention to it since our family went on vacation last month and came back our dog was acting weird. Your cat probably is dealing with depression or feels something isn't the same.
Cats are very temperamental, especially when their owners go away for any length of time. They can easily get depressed, refuse food and water, and become dehydrated. Definitely take kitty to the vet, and get him checked out. Also, have you moved recently? Moving is really hard on cats. Mine started peeing in the strangest places, and stopped eating altogether when we moved.
Many cats will stop eating if their owners are away. Cats hate change and get depressed when things change. He had no way of knowing that you would be coming back after 2 weeks. I would definately see what the vet says though.
it could be any of those things, cats often become depressed when their owners leave for more than a day. But it's also a sign of illness, it's good you're taking him to the vet tomorrow, good luck! (don't let him outside anymore - read my answer on indoor/outdoor cats a couple threads down and you'll understand why!)
It could be that he has picked up a flu bug or I hate to say it but he may have worms. I don't mean to sound nasty but look at his stool when he uses the litter pan. If he is eating normally but staying thin that would be my guess. The good news is that they are easily treatable. The bad news is it makes for a miserable kitty.
Aahh... he probably missed you when you went away. I'm glad you have an app - best to check! I have a cat who kept calling out to check I was there last time I left him!
My cat had similar symptoms. He lost some weight and a few weeks ago he stayed in my bed in the same spot for about 2 days and didn't get up to go out or eat. He seemed sick and he wasn't acting normal. We took him to the vet and the vet said he might have eaten something dead outside and that he probably had an infection. The vet gave him a shot and some antibiotics. He's much better and back to normal. I hope your cat will be okay!
I could be a tapeworn. lots of cats get em. its real easy to treat. he could have just been depressed my dog wont eat but a couple bites when I have to go out of town.
good luck.
it could be depression and might still be scared having a stranger in the house. is this the first time you left your cat alone? if not then it should already be used to being alone. if yes then it might just be scared.
hope everything is alright! :)

Whats up with my cat?

my indoor cat got very very skinny (only his lower body) and he had knots on his hair but i think he ripped them out. but he is losing lots of hair. there is nothing wrong with his skin or anything he looks normal exept he is so skinny. i am going to take him to the vet soon but what could be wrong with him. o yea he pees everywhere too grr. is it bc he hasnt been fixed?
Answers:
Is the fur falling out or is he pulling it out? Losing weight is something not to be ignored, can be something as simple as worms but could be impending kidney failure. I would take him to the vet as soon as possible. Good luck, I hope he is ok and its something easily treated
could be worms, could be sick..
You cat can be seriously sick, loosing weight naturally %26 fast doesn't show anything good for an animal (or anybody).Take to vet as soon as possible,I am sure he/she will explain to you what's happened to your cat much better than i :) Hope it helps :)
I don't know about anything u just said but my best guess would to let the vet check him out.
It sounds like he might have some sort of infection, maybe a uti. that would explain all of the things you described. When animals don't feel well (just like humans) they decrease or even stop eating. If they stop eating they loose weight. If they aren't getting any nutrition then their hair will eventually start to fall out due to malnutrition. The excessive urinating could be obviously from a UTI. You can find some stuff at the pet store, this will only help as fair as weight and nutrients, that you can get to help boost the amount of calories the cat's taking in. It's a gel that's basically straight calories. You can put it in their mouth a few times a day, that way he'll at least be getting something. However, you do need to try to get to your vet as soon as you can.
Get him to the vet asap. Could be something as simple as worms, which is easily treated. Good Luck!
jelousy? stress? my cat once got jelous of my other pets and wasn't eating anything. We had to force him to eat. he was very sick and weak.
yeah probably the vet is what i would do...dont wait too long make him an appt asap

Whats up with my cat?

i went away for the weekend and left my cat with my mum in her house, since i have been back he doesn't want to know me. He seems frightened of me and is just hiding under my bed, will he come round?
Answers:
Yes he will be fine. He is probably just mad at you for leaving him and is anxious because of all the moving in case he moves again. Make a fuss of him and I am sure he will come round in a few days! Good luck X
Course he will, he's just annoyed with you for leaving him! Funny creatures cats! Coax him out with tit bits and treats, he'll soon be your best mate again!
he will come round
Yes, he's just mad at you for leaving him, my kitten does it to me when I go out to check the mail!
this happened to me once , i went away for 5 days an when i came bck my cat was distant. to solve this, i gave him extra TLC. i pampered him and kept him around me!!
Cats are funny creatures and very much don't like being disturbed or disrupted and at the moment he just unsure, just give him plenty of fuss and love and he will soon come around.
Of course he will, just make sure only you feed him for a while and maybe get some kitty treats for him to spoil him with. He's just having a sulk, it will pass.
when i leave my cats they do the same thing
but always come round
give more attention than norm when he comes out
he''ll be back to normal in no time
He'll come around. Open a can of tuna for him. You might ask your mum what he was like when you were away?
Dont worry lilly_sammie! He is just being a cat! Huffy little things they are! Esp. my lot!! lol
Hi hun,
Ahh don't worry - he'll be fine. He's just spooked about having been in a different house for the weekend and probably thought you had left him for good and is confused about seeing you again.
My boyfriend went away only for 1 night a little while ago, and when he came back our cat (who REALLY loves my boyfriend!) completely ignored him! He usually runs to the door when my boyfriend gets home from work, but this time he looked at him and just walked away. The next day he was back to his normal self!
Let your cat come out of hiding in his own time. Give him his favourite food and when he does come out, try to give him lots of fuss. Things will be back to normal soon, don't worry.
