What's the best way to give medicane to a cat?

I took my cat to the vet and she had a blather infection. They gave me liquid meds (pain killers) in a kind of eye drop to give here every night. That part I'm not worried about. Along with the pain killers they gave me antibiotics. They're small pills that I have to split in half and give her orally. She wont touch wet food so that method isn't an option. Does anyone have any ideas?
Answers:
try to use a "bulls eye" pill gun. Basically it looks like a syringe minus the needle with a piece of slitted rubber on the tip to hold the pill in place. You stick the pill on the end. Then you get kitty petting her to keep her calm. Press her gently but with pressure on the side of her jaw so she opens her mouth and put the syringe quickly down towards her throat (not to far but back there by her tonsils) and shoot the plunger. Try to do it as fast as you can. Then close her mouth and tilt her head up rubbing her throat for a few minutes . This way she doesn't spit it back up. Don't make this into a panic problem for your kitty though. Make it as stress free as you can. If she jumps down and runs, wait a bit, give her some treats in a while and pet her then try again. I use this method allot and it works great! Its only a few dollars at your local pet store. If the pill is too tiny to fit in the pill gun try crushing it into baby food. Or call your vet and ask if the antibiotic or even one close to it comes in a larger sized pill for the gun or a liquid substitute. He probably gets these calls 10 times a day so don't feel funny .
Good luck with Kitty! Hopefully she feels better soon.
at every pet store ive been to, ive seen these little treats with holes in the middle to put pills. provided that your cat likes the taste of the treats, this seems like it could be really effective and simple solution! goodluck!
well the liquid will be easy, but i had to give my cat pills too, and we hit them in a treat. but after a while, my cat figured it out and ate the treat, then spit out the pill...you could always put it in their mouth and massage their throat, that works too. yep good luck!
This is always fun..I had to give my cat liquid and pills last month..I tried putting it in wet food..yeah, she ate around it..even when it was crushed. I tried putting it in a treat..yeah right, she knew. This is what worked for me-I knelt down and put her in between my legs and put the pill in her mouth..I held her mouth closed gently and rubbed her neck..she would swallow it..she would spit it out if I didn't hold her mouth shut..I had lovely scratches on my legs from her trying to back out..watch those back legs! Good Luck!
If you cannot drop it into the cats mouth while holding it, put it into some milk or something else the cat will drink. This worked for my in laws when their cat had an infection from a bad cut.
hold dah mouth and syringe it in after mixing with some water
Cats love tuna, I give liquid meds in tuna. The only other way is to hold the cat like a baby and you squeeze the dropper of meds in the back of it's mouth, of course it's easier said than done but that's how I do it. Maybe have someone hold the cat while you put the dropper in it's mouth, but make sure to put it in the back so they don't let it run out of their mouth.
My cat likes peanut butter. Putting pills in a sample of peanut butter works quite nicely for me.
Hold by the scruff and the mouth will stay slightly ajar to get the syringe in. Squeeze it in slow to make sure they get it all. They can splatter it everywhere.
the best way is to hide it in food, since she won't eat wet food - try a cat treat,or something she is use to and will eat. you have to be careful, because cats being intelligent, are quick to know if something is in their food,so it has to be well hidden, and watch and make sure she has consumed it. if that won't work, you can slip it in her mouth in the back corner behind her teeth, and shut her mouth - she should swallow it - i don't like that method, but it will work as a last resort. this one is also good - but ask the vet first, depending on the medication, crush the pill and dilute it with water - put it in a medicine syringe (the vet has them) and give it to her that way - put the tip in the back corner of her mouth and squirt it gently, you can flavor it with a bit of crushed food too. i know it is a pain to give a cat meds, especially if they don't like canned food. if it seems too much, ask the vet if there is a wet form of the medication-that would make the syringe/dropper easier to do and they taste good.
good luck, call your vet with questions =)
when its sleeping give it to her
I've also tried the meds in a treat, but cats are smart and have a high sense of smell. The only way that was successful for me was to place a finger on each side of her jaw with a bit of pressure to keep the mouth open and push the meds deep in her throat then massaging her neck in a downward motion. She always hated me after but only for a few minutes. If you want your cat to get healthy you sometimes have to be a bit forceful. It won't hurt.
I have two ideas.
First, you can dissolve the tablet in a wee, tiny bit of water from tuna packed in water, then put that in an eyedropper and squirt it in the same as you do for the liquid meds. Just be sure that the entire dose is dissolved and taken up into the eyedropper.
Pilling a cat is a skill or a knack, and it is acquired. I was never very g ood at it, but I know the technique. You have to hold the cat, then pry the mouth open by inserting your thumb like a lever at the back of the mouth and leveraging the mouth open. You have to be really quick then. Toss the pill in toward the back of the tongue, close the mouth and hold it closed, lift the head and stroke the throat until the cat swallows and then swallows again. The cat will struggle, so you may have to wrap her in a towel with only her head out to do this.
This one is soooo easy. Open her mouth, put the pill way in the back of her throat, close mouth and rub throat. If she squirms alot, wrap her up in a towel but you shouldn't really need to do that.
if you can crush the pill get a pill crusher and then put it in some food or tuna. We gave it to our cats in yougurt. Mine love yougurt.
I would just mix it threw it's food..what else?
Mix it in milk.

What's the best way to get rid of fleas-have 2 cats?

Hello,
I have two cats, and they as well as my house are infested with fleas. It's gotten worse this week as it's been really hot and humid here and I think the fleas are reproducing in the carpets, upholstered furniture... We've been vacuuming. We've given the cats flea baths, and the gel stuff that you put on the back of their neck, and it's supposed to last a month. Neither has worked at all it seems.
I've heard that vacuuming with salt helps?
What should I do to get them out? Are flea collars the best for cats?
Answers:
It does take time to work. I gave Poppy Advantage about 2 weeks ago, and up until Monday I was still seeing the occasional flea. Yesterday there was nothing.
Don't bother with flea collars.
1. Treat the cat. Go to your vet and get either Advantage or Frontline Plus (I went with Advantage).
2. Get yourself a "flea comb" and comb your cat at least once per day. Have a bucket with dish soap in it handy to dunk the comb in and to collect the hair. Fleas can't jump out of the slippery soap. No point in combing them out only to have them jump back on your cat. Flush this down the toilet, pour it down the sink, or dispose of it away from your house.
3. Treat your house. Options are a borate powder product or something that uses diatomaceous earth. Fleabusters (BP), Fleago Natural Flea Control (BP) or Flea Away Natural Flea Powder (DE). Put about a tablespoon of this in your vacuum cleaner bag (or you can cut up a flea collar to put in there. Just follow the directions which will vary by product, but in general you'll sprinkle on the carpet and vacuum up and also sprinkle into cracks and crevices. (I chose Fleago because it's less expensive than Fleabusters. I may also try Flea Away in time).
4. Vacuum as often as possible. Before vacuuming, stomp around the house. This will bring the fleas to life because they'll think there's a tasty morsel out there. Then vacuum those little bastards up. Be sure to use your attachments to vacuum as many cracks and crevices as you can - they love to hide out there.
5. Wash any pet bedding in hot water, and you'll want to be particularly diligent about vacuuming/treating areas where your cat hangs out.
6. Treat your yard. Even if your cat doesn't go outside, fleas may enter your home if they exist in your yard. There's a small chance that you or others may bring fleas in the house with you (although this is unlikely). Get hold of some nematodes to spray in your yard. I believe you only have to do this once per year. These little creatures will eat the flea larva. As one website put it, these critters are too small to hug, but they deserve it! (I had to order this online; I wasn't able to find a place that sells them in my area and didn't feel like calling every place in the phonebook).
Things not to do: Don't use any essential oils on your cat, particularly anything with pennyroyal or eucalyptus. They're toxic to cats. Don't use flea collars. Don't give your cat any garlic/yeast formulations. Don't give your cat lemon baths.

You're going to want to continue treating your home as directed, whether that be sprinkling once per week or once a month. Continue treating throughout flea season (when it's warm). You can stop during the winter months, but start up again in the spring. You'll nip them in the bud!
The key is to treat the environment, not the cat. If you do that, you may never have to apply another flea product directly on them again.
hello my name is Lisa. there is a flea coller or you can give your cat a flea bath to get rid of the fleas i have a dog that had flea intill i game him a flea bath. or you can ask the vet about how to get rid of fleas.
Wow, that's not good. Get your cats some flea collars, that works really well. Then, for your house, get a bug bomb and let it off when there are no animals or people in the house. Good luck. Stupid fleas...
Flea collars are useless. You need to use the Advantage or frontline drops on your cats. Vacuum daily and throw the bag immediately out the door..
I had the same problem I got my cat a flea coller for her and prevented the nasty fleas and giving them a bath should be fine unless your cats don't like water my cats don't so that's why I got a flea coller for her.
get your cats flea collors... or you can burn them bu tthat is gross! ( not the cats! the fleas)
You will have to flea bomb your house and wash your cats with flee shampoo. you will need a place for you and your cats to go for the day in order to bomb you house. Also after you have flea shampooed get flea collars to prevent re-infestation.
Hi,
I have went through a very similiar infestation with fleas. I have a dog and two cats. I remember I tried everything, including putting borax into my carpets! Flea collars, powders and OTC flea remedies dont work at all! The ONLY thing that worked for me was a product called Advantage. You can get it from 1800petmeds.com or Ebay. I bought mine from Ebay at half the cost! I applied it one time to my pets and I havent had a problem since then and that was last year!. It wiped out the entire flea infestation on my pets and the house. Good Luck!
I have 4 dogs, 4 cats and NO fleas. I use and have for 10 plus years frontline plus ONLY, other products don't work well. You have to remember that for the dogs frontline works for 3 months for flea control and one for ticks, the cats you do need to apply every month. I use it every 6 weeks and no problems. 3 days before and after no bath, and also when a bath is needed use regular pet shampoo not flea and tick. Also regular vacuuming works with a fresh bag, it sounds like you are really infested you may need to get a flea and tick killer for the home remember to get under beds, couch's, curtains, hardwood floors, cement, they will hide everywhere. I recommend a product that's a spray with a nylar system which stays in you home for 3 months so when eggs hatch they will die. Hope this helps, just remember next year to apply about May and you should have no problems next season. It will take a while to get rid of a infestation.
There is a company called FleaBusters that came to my house. They put this non-poisonous stuff down into the carpet that erodes the fleas' eggs. They saved my life cuz after a while, you could see the fleas jumping in the air and they were biting ME! You will have to use flea bombs tho. I put one upstairs and one downstairs. I got it from the vet. Then you vacuum and make sure to toss out the bag. You have to do it again 6 weeks later because that's when the new fleas emerge from those eggs. Continue bathing your animals as shampoo and water drown the fleas. What I did with my fish and cats was put them outside in the shade (on my deck) while I bombed. VERY IMPORTANT! Shut the windows when you bomb and at the designated number of hours later, OPEN ALL WINDOWS WIDE! Humans cannot be in the house either when you bomb. Stopping the cycle of reproduction is very important. If your cats are outdoor cats, once this is all done I would make them indoor cats. Fleas bring alot of disease and I have one cat that is allergic to fleas (it's a very real thing and the animal suffers fiercely).
okay whatever u do do not use a flea collar they never work! advantage is the best it is safe and it works excelent!!! i highly reccomend it! also there is a flea powder at walmart that u put on your rug before vacuuming and that also works!

Whats the best way to get my cat to adapt to moving to a new house?

Answers:
place the litter box where you want to keep it before you let kitty out. then, place kitty in or right next to the litter box. kitty will explore on his/her own from the litter box. it will map every point in the house from and to the litter box. this will prevent accidents because kitty will always know where the litter box is. also, kitty may walk low to the floor with his/her tail between the legs... this is ok. just let kitty explore. most cats will hide during the day and explore a new area at night, when the house is quiet and everybody is asleep. make sure to give kitty affection and play with kitty when you see kitty during the day. it may take a week (give or take) but kitty will adapt. and it will help for you to be calm and affectionate toward kitty. this way kitty gets a safe sensation from you.
i have no idea sorry i really wanna help
just let it run around the house and get used to it ... it will adjust ... there really isn't much more you can do ... having you around will help it a lot.
I recently moved my 14 year old cat for a couple weeks into a different house. He didn't seem to mind too much.
I brought his old bed and scratching post and set it up in my bedroom. For the first few days I kept him contained to my room and let him adjust. After a week he was fine, but i do think he missed going outside.
I think the biggest thing would be not to let the cat go outside. Its a new place and they might get lost or hurt. In my situation my cat went from ranch living to city, so he doesn't know to stay away from roads.
Nothing to it. When your cat arrives at your/cats new home let your cat explore by her/him self with out interruption.
Before you and your cat arrive at your new home have everything in place...scratching post, water dish, cat box and a few of his/her familiar toys.
I suggest you don't have a house warming party or company on this day. Let it be you and your cat only. You go about your business and your can will go about it's business exploring. That will be enough excitement for the both you for one day.
Your cat will soon feel right at home.
Have a good time together on your new adventure.

What's the best way to find kittens after the mother took them somewhere else?

Tried a couple of ways to follow none seem to work.
Answers:
follow the mother cat around until you find them. Try listening for the meows. Good luck!
Why do you want to find them? If the mother cat has removed her kittens somewhere, it's because she wants to keep them away and safe in her care. They will come out when they are ready. Otherwise, I guess all you can do is follow her!
Have some one keep an eye out for her, eventually you'll see her coming or going, she doesn't stay away form them long.
You are going to have to watch the mother, borrow binoculars and follow her with them from a distance you should be able to find the location that way and then narrow it down from there and get some friends to help you as well more eyes and a differerent scent may put the mother at ease. Good luck and I hope you find them and help them all. God bless you.

What's the best way (for the animal) to transport a cat from Massachusetts to Tennessee?

Answers:
Take an uncrowded, evening flight and carry the cat on board with you. They can fit under the seat in a soft sided sherpa bag or a plastic kennel.
That is the fastest, most secure way to go.
He will need a health certificate and it is a good idea to get him used to a harness and leash just in case he needs to be out of the carrier.
http://metpet.com/shopsite_sc/store/html...
Can't vouch for these guys but here is a link to pet transport:
http://www.uship.com/ship/livestock/...
A car is fine, as long as it has AC and you can endure possible bathroom usage. Also, if there are multiple(3-4) LOUD people accomp. you, you may want to re-consider.
Get a Dog Kennel (Crate) Be sure to acclimate the cat to the kennel before you leave.
If you can drive the car the cat is in it will probably feel better. I was able to get a pill from my vet to help my cats sleep better when I moved five hours away. The vet recommended feeding them well really late the night before we left and a just a tiny bit the morning we moved.
One of my cats whined to get out of his cage and he climbed under the seat and slept the four out of the five hours. My 15 month old or so cat slept almost the entire time in her cage with just a few pats when she woke up. I did buy a small cat box to sit in the passenger floor board just in case. Cut open a large trash bag to line the floor, seat, etc around the box. I know it sounds really strange, but I didn't have to worry about who was taking care of my animals, etc.
A larger carrier, the plastic kind, with a small litter box with NO-CLUMP litter, small food (dry) and small water dishes.
Keep food and jug of water and litter scoop and baggies for used litter in carry-all next to cat where you can get them.
You can buy dishes that hook to the door, you can get them in the bird supplies dept. of a store, they look like a half-circle and have two hook things.
It's going to be hot?
Put the cat where she will be comfortable, use car a/c or leave windows open, it gets hot in a carrier.
The vet can give you a sedative, which really is a kindness to the cat...you may not have to use the stuff for the whole trip but in the beginning it's pretty good to have, then just see how it goes.
A harness (NOT a "figure 8", but a small harness) and a lightweight leash, plus either a microchip or collar with tags is sensible.
It's not a good idea to let the cat loose in your car.
If you go to motel at night let her stretch her legs then.
NEVER leave the cat in the car in even moderate heat!!
Remember it gets twice as hot in the carrier.
One of my cats meowed the whole day on the last day of trip, but she stayed in carrier.
If traveling by car use a large plastic airline type crate. You'd want one big enough to be able to put a small litter box in it for the cat to use while traveling. Coop cups that fasten to the crate door are a good idea too. Provide small amounts of water often during the trip. Keep the AC running while your are traveling and by all means DO NOT LET THE CAT LOOSE in the car while traveling. Also DO NOT LET THE CAT IN A HOT CAR. Pets can die quickly in hot weather while left in a car. So make food stop and bathroom breaks quick stops.
car seat-
they can look out the window
they have the freedom to sit or lay
they have room to play
here's a link to a few:

http://www.petco.com/product/13417/snooz...
http://www.petco.com/product/12523/snooz...
if the sun gets in their eyes you can always put a screen on the window, or just tape a piece of paper to the window to give them some shade
and as for entertainment, they can watch the scenery OR you can buy them some car toys
I suggest throwing a ball in the seat with them and getting one of those sticks with a feather on one end and a suction cup on the other so that you can suction cup the toy to the window and hang it over the car seat
this might not be right for all cats but my cat likes it
for long trips like this one I put a litter box on the floor in front of the car seat and he tells us when he wants to use it, and we offer it to him at every rest stop just in case
if you decide to do this then I suggest practicing on shorter rides before the big trip
let a relative hold your cat till you get to Tennessee and you've settled down and then when your relative come to visit they can bring your cat!
If you are planning to drive, do some test drives so you can see how your cat responds to car movement. There have been some suggestions posted in this answer section on transport. If by air, check with your specific airline, and then recheck, as things change rapidly. If by air, I have posted a link. Spraying the inside of the carrier with Feliway is often suggested, as it may calm your cat.
If by car, you need to find pet friendly hotels/motels along the way. Not sure if travel in one day is a good idea.
However, NEVER give your cat a tranquilizer. You want your cat responsive to any jolts or bumps.

Whats the best thing to feed a cat if you are trying to fatten him up?

My cat was recently diagnosed with F.I.V he has had an operation to remove a tumure and has also been castrated to stop him biting and infecting other cats (we have 6)The thing is he has lost so much weight i dont want to feed him foods that are full of fat and end up doing him more bad than good.
Answers:
Just feed normally, if he's hungry then he'll eat more of his regular food rather than any new food, then you can top up his bowl more often than usual. Try to feed him away from the other cats too, it's likely that because he's weak he'll find it harder to get to the food, and won't be in the mood to fight for it.
cream
If you feed him healthy, he will fatten up
Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat鈥檚 health
Contrary to what you may have heard, dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i鈥檚 and a host of other problems. The problems with it are that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Most of the moisture a cat needs is gotten
out of the food and 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Also, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Please read about cat nutrition.
http://www.newdestiny.us/nutritionbasics...
Ask the vet, and you can feed your cat canned more often with dry along the side. Feed it a half can 3 or 4 times daily and have plenty of fresh water available and some dry as well. Good Luck.
Go back to the vet they should give u a food suplement for your pet, its a powder that goes into the meal also u can feed him small meals thruoghout the day, hope he gets well soon
a good way to fatten up your cat and keep it healthy is occationaly feed it 1egg mixed with a bit of milk, they love it and soon they will but on weight but as soon as you think they are getting to fat or alone the way to being to fat stop doing it, but keep feeding him normal cat food twice a day and at lunch time give him egg mixed with water. I have 6 cats and we sometimes have to give the runt of the litter some egg and milk.
just make sure he has access to fresh cat food ( a good one he'll like, Whiskas or Dine or something - not cheapo cat spam crap from Spar) and he'll eat loads I expect. Mine does!
Kitten food has been advised not to feed to adults because It causes normal adult cats to gain weight, so if your cat is under weight, I would feed him kitten food mixed in with is normal food. Do not switch completely over to the kitten food, but you can feed as much as 50/50. Kitten chow has more protein, which causes the weight gain, it is not full of fat.
I am afraid the weight loss is unlikely to be food related and will not be corrected with a change of diet. Treatment of the FIV infection and its consequences (cancer) may improve your cat's general condition and he may then gain some weight.
FIV is a dreadful infection. I recommend:
- Isolation of the affected individuals (blood screen your 6 cats + neutering)
- Treatment of affected individuals with interferon (no cure possible and expensive but usually quite effective in improving general condition) + antibiotics.
- Euthanasia when the cat has not got any quality of life and going down hill (trust me, you do not want to see a terminally hill FIVcat ...)
Good luck
If you are feeding regular cat food, take a look at the back of the pack for recommended portion sizes. Feed your cat the portion of food according to the weight you want your cat to be.
I suggest including raw human grade beef with a little bit of fat in it. (Look for cheap cuts of casserole beef with marbling). Cats are carnivores and most really love fresh beef - it's good for their digestion and will make their poos less smelly. It's also fantastic for their teeth.
Dry food is a completely ok choice of food - it is high in calories so do be sure to measure portions out carefully. A quality dry food like Hills Science Diet or Iams will not cause issues with crystals/kidney problems.
If you're concerned, call your vet or speak to the vet nurse - who will most likely be very knowledgeable about diet and can advise you further. It could probably be done via a phone call.
My best recommendation would be "Royal Canin Exigent" it's designed for fussy cats so it is higher in fat and protein, just be sure to switch him over to it graually (over a period of about 10 days) and keep a close eye on his weight because cats get very obese very quickly! Don't be put off by the "higher fat" statement either, its full of only the best quality ingredients for cats needing to gain weight!

What's the best flea/tick medicine for cats?

Answers:
I like Advantage. Works quickly and is very effective. Don't use any of the garbage they sell at the pet stores. It's mostly ineffective and some of it actually quite dangerous for them. You can pick up Advantage at your vets but to save quite a bit of money but it online through http://www.800petmeds.com
...keep the "cat" powdered up with good'ol Boric Acid powder. keep it out of "it's" eyes and nose of course...and if it's an "in-door" cat... use the Boric Acid power on your rugs... it's inexpensive... animal and people safe and the "bug" hate it.
Go to the Vet and get frontline or advantage, I can't remember which is which but one of them is flea and tick and the other is just flea, the vet will be able to tell you which one you need. They are drops that you put behind the cats head. You do not need an appoinment to get them and you can get them from any vet in your area, you don't even need to be a client, they are around $10 for cats.
I suggest Advantage over Frontline. When I first got my kitten they told me they had been using Frontline but I wondered why there were so many fleas on her. Advantage has always worked for me (well, I mean my cats).

What's the best cat to get for my apartment?

I want a cat that isn't going to roam. I live on the first floor, and have a nice back yard and green belt. I intend to allow the cat access to my patio. But I want the type of cat that will
be content to hang around the patio. I have no pets right now. Thanks.

I don't know what the breed is called but it is flat faced and looks like Garfield but has many patterns and colours. If you don't play with them, they don't really move but when you play with them, they are really cuddly and fun! Tell us what you get once you get a cat! Good luck!
Many cats seem to fit your qualifications. Try going to the shelter and adopting a kitten and raise it to adjust to apartment life.
I think any cat that you let go outside unsupervised could roam.
It's always best if you keep a cat on a leash. No matter what breed you get, there is no promise that at some point your cat won't take off after a rabbit or bug and find itself lost. As for the best and most fun breed, I have to vote Bengal on this one. Why? I have two of them sitting on me threatening to bite me if I don't tell you what wonderful and sweet cats they are!

Whats the Best Cat Food & Best Litter?

Whats the best cat food out there? What do you feed %26 what cat litter do you use?
Answers:
Well, the best cat food will always be up for debate. As long as you avoid corn, wheat , soy, and by-products, your choice in cat food should be fine. Personally, one of my cats is raw fed, and the others are on Innova Evo as I attempt to convert them into raw fed cats. When I got my first cat I fed Natural Balance, which I still think is a great food.
Some will say raw is best, others canned, others high quality dry. I think all are fine, but I do believe it is a good idea to at least mix in some canned if you feed dry.
Some good brands of cat food are
Natures variety
Merrick
Evengers
Solid Gold
Chicken Soup
Wellness
Felidae
Fromm
Innova
Eagle Pac Holistic
Natural Balance
As far as cat litter, I use clumping clay litter. I have not found a huge difference between brands of clumping clay, and my cats could care less if I switch brands. So I usually use what ever clumping litter is on sale.
What is best for your pet,is generally what brand it got as a kitten, but you can compare the ingredients on the side of the package, and pick one that has the best protein ratio.Usually pet stores have generic versions of the name brands.
You can choose a new food and slowly mix the two until it is all the new brand.Be sure to always have fresh H20,even if you give the cat wet food, too. If the cat stool is not too loose or hard is a good sign of quality food.I like "Fresh Step"litter.
As far as litter goes, I used to mix regular clay litter with crystals and that got me by, but that was expensive.
Now I get these little pine dust pellets that disintegrate when they get wet. It's called Feline Pine.
And it's like recycled and biodegradable and all that.
The best food for your cat is the one that your cat will eat and meets his/her dietary needs. As long as the cat is happy and healthy, brand does not make a difference. The cheaper foods, like the store brands, can be harder on the digestive system. The same can be true for the pricey brands. They may be too rich for the cat and can cause loose bowels. The best food will keep your cat's coat shiney, hair balls at a minimum, and teeth in good shape. Feeding wet food, and only wet food can damage the cat's teeth because they need the crunch to help clean their teeth. A cat also will not eat what they cannot smell. If the food is not fresh, they won't eat it.
As for litter, it is actually a cat's preference. Most people choose the one that they like and try to make their cat conform. If the cat doesn't like the litter, he/she won't use it. Some cats do not like the scoopable because it gets stuck in their paws. Others do not like the clay because it turns to mud. There are others who do not like some of the newer products because of the smell.
So there is no one BEST brand for every one. Just like people like different foods, so do cats. Just like people like different toilet paper, so do cats. You have to find out what the cat enjoys and keeps her/him healthy.
The term "best" is open to interpretation depending on your circumstances and what you want for your cat. Just about any well-advertised brand of cat food has adequate nutrition for your cat. However, dry food promotes better muscular development and is better for the cat's teeth (and is much easier to clean up and cheaper).
I feed my cats IAMS, which is considered a premium food. There are a lot of different formulations for your cat's needs. My cats are very healthy, have bright eyes and shiny fur and are very active, without bad breath. Their litterbox doesn't stink as much when using IAMS (for me that's a definite plus). My husband fed our cats a nationally advertised brand when I was out of town and the whole house smelled like litterbox when I got home (yes, he had scooped every day). I switched them to IAMS and within 24 hours, the house smelled better.
For litter, I use crystals in the house because they are dust free (I have allergies). Some of our cats in the "cattery" use Tidy Cats scoop for multiple cats, which clumps hard. Kittens like the scoopable best because it is kinder to their paws. Some of our cats will only bury their leavings when the litter is softer. However, if you're going to dump the litter weekly, plain old clay litter is the best and cheapest. There is no such thing as a litter that doesn't smell. It just depends on what you can stand.
Not sure aout the food, there are plenty good ones. But I LOVE the litter we use. It is made of pine (called Feline Pine)..Doesnt smell at all, and u can flush it down the toilet, which is super convenient. I.ve used it with 4 cats, and no issues. And clay based litters are really bad to inhale. This is an all natural alternative, and you can get it anywhere.Good luck!
The first poster had a great list going. I"ve not checked them all out but most you can't go wrong with.
My cats are on Wellness. One of them is incredibly picky and doesn't like change in his food AT ALL so we're sticking with Wellness.
In the massive confusion of trying to find the best food I learned to look at the first few ingredients (as well as the recommendations of others, like you). Nothing with "meal" or "by-products." Run from those. The first 2-4 ingredients should be actual meat from actual animals (including fish). At least 3 out of the first 5 ingredients should be real meat from real animals. Everything else should be natural except for a few key ingredients toward the end. Cats need a lot of minerals and amino-acids that just won't be supplied by most foods in a non-wild environment. These are added as supplements.
Which ever brand you choose please use primarily canned food. The dry foods don't supply the water cats need no matter how much fresh water they drink.
As far as litter goes, really, I think any will do. If he, she, or they are still kittens go with a non-clumping until they are 6 months to a year (when in doubt go a year). Kittens take time to learn to use a litter box well and can even eat some of their "results." The clumping litter can expand in their tummies or intestines and cause problems.
I've read all the research and it seems that, barring digestive concerns, any litter is as good as any other.
Most importantly, do take your cat to the vet every year for a check up. I only let my vet give vaccines every three years because it really isn't needed, even for outdoor cats, every year and can cause more problems. A yearly check up is important, though.
So many cat people, so many opinions on this....
As for food, I think raw meets the cats natural needs best (they are carnivores ;)) but it's not always practical for everyone. If there is no ready-composed raw food available to you, it's best you don't go that route if you don't know exactly what you're doing.
The next best option is to look for a food high in protein and fat, but low in carbs. Carbs will get a cat hooked on his food, will make it want to eat more often and is the component that does most of the "fattening" in cats. Fibre really doesn't do much for cats, they can't digest it because their digestive tract is too short.
Most of the brands of the first answerer will meet up to this; high in protein and fat, low in carbs.
Look at the label what is used to preserve the food, if it says etoxyquine, stay away from it (this is farming poison, for real!).
Whether you want to feed canned or kibble is up to you, but remember that cats are in need of a lot of moisture but don't tend to drink that much. Canned food can help a little better in this department. Do have multiple bowls of fresh water out spread over the house at all times.
My cats love running water best, so I got them a special drinking fountain (cat-it or freshflow are two brands)
When you first get your cat, slowly change it over from the food it was previously getting to the food you want it on; take about two weeks to complete the transition, by slowly mixing more and more of the new food in with the old.
As for litters, regular clay litters often contain silica dust, which can cause lungcancer on prolonged exposure, and can cause problems with the urinal tract.
The clumping clay litters tend to have less silica dust, and are handy, but are very dangerous for small kittens that still "taste" everything, they might get their digestive system blocked. This type of litter is often scented or contains babypowder, and not all cats like that.
Silica litter ( e.g. litter pearls) really has no downsides, as long as you clean it often enough and turn it often. If you don't, the pellets stop absorbing the urine, which will run straight to the bottom and stay there. This means wet feet for your cat the next time it goes potty- ew. But it holds the smells well and I must say I like using it.Those are the white "balls" or glass-like pellets, often blue or see-through too. It's very light in weight.
Don't let the name confuse you, this litter doesn't contain silica dust. After some time after disposal, it turns back to sand.
It's a little more environment-friendly then the clay litters.
And then you have the wood-pellets or broken wood-pellets, cats really enjoy the use, it doesn't contain anything harmful, it smells pleasant and is light (you're going to be carrying a lot of bags/ packages of kittylitter in your lifetime, before and after use) the only downside is you have to refresh a little more often; as it gets "wet" the quickest.
It is biodegradable though, so most environment-friendly.
For all litters goes: the smaller the grain of the pellets, the better cats tend to like them (it enables them to dig better) but the more messy it will be around the litterbox ;)
When you first get your cat, start him on the litter he was used to, and when you know he's got the picture, you can slowly start mixing in the new litter if you're gonna change it.
Always keep a layer of the old litter on top at first.
Good luck with all those choises, and don't forget to enjoy your kitty :)
I have given my cat Purina Cat Chow Complete and my cat is very happy with it and I have spoken to the People that run Purina on several times about their cat food and it is a very good food for cats. The litter I use for my cat is Tidy cat crumble free for multiple cats and it does not smell after the cat has used it and it works good. I only have 1 cat.

My personal choice for the best canned cat food is By Nature Organics, with the second choice being Nature's Variety Instincts.
As for cat litter, I use Fresh Step. I don't have strong feelings one way or another, but I refuse to use clumping litter.

Whats the best cat flea stuff to give the cat?

i got a 2year old cat i tried everything on him to get rid off flies can anybody help me he is a persian kitty
Answers:
It might not be just the cat, you might also need to do the house as if you are treating the cat and its getting them back then chances are its getting them from the house.
Get frontline on prescription for the cat and call your local council to come out and spray the house. this is a really good way of doing it just remember to treat them both at the same time so they don't reinfect. the council will spray your entire house for about 拢30 and that includes a free respray if you get reinfected within 3 months (i would recommend calling them out and saying you have even if you haven't for the extra protection!). this has worked perfectly for us!
Front Line or Advantage both from a vet the drops go in between the shoulder blades works for one month.
Here check out this site it was given to me by my vet so it is safe..
The treatment goes by weight well at least it does for dog.

Good luck,
'Frontline' - get it from the vet and use it regularly as instructed to prevent re-infestation. Also thoroughly clean and vacuum the places around your home where your cat goes, particularly where he sleeps, and treat them with an insecticide spray, to kill any fleas which are lurking there. Do this regularly too - the eggs can lie dormant for years! Don't despair - you will eventually get rid of them. Good luck!
Frontline Combo from the vet only. Kills fleas, egg and ticks. Also if any new flea hops on your cat, it makes them infertile so they cant lay eggs on your cat that will hatch out!! It's not too expensive , but even if it was it's worth it cos it works. Do it every month and flea comb too.no problem . Ive got 2 cats and a dog and they are all fine. P.S. Don't be tempted to buy cheaper stuff from supermarkets as they DONT WORK
I don't know about cats but I use frontline for my dog which I get from the vet. It's expensive but it works
the vet told me to uses revolution she said it really works
Frontline plus, gets rid of fleas and ticks. It also gets rid of flees at all stages unlike advantage and other medications. Also you need to treat your house (Vacum and medication). Any carpet, beds, or places they like to sleep. Fleas eggs can get between the couch coutions. They only need one bite of blood and they can live for a really long time.
definately frontline.
dont go near the bob martin stuff !
I also have a Persian kitty and she goes everywhere with me. I give her advantage...not to be confused with advantics because that is for dogs and can kill a cat. You have to get it from the vet and it is not very expensive. Please do not use the cheap versions made from hertz because my cat had a very allergic reaction to this and I later found out from pet-co that a lot of cats had died from this med. Also getting your cat shaved in a lion's cut will help. E-mail me if you have any further questions.
Frontline from the vet!
Advantage spot on treatment is the best for flea's a bit pricey and obtained from the vet. Once you have the condition under control by using for two months, you can then go onto a more affordable one. I use Wilkinson's Stores own make, you get two tubes on a card, thats 2 months treatment, for 拢2.89.
I have a mult-cat household and I am allergic to flea bites and I find these work for my cats.
I'm sure these will help.
Frontline Spot On. Works great for us, and really easy to apply.
You can get it online without prescription.
i use frontline
rfrontline spot on is the best which can be purchased from either your vet or most pet shops you can either get 4 weekly or 12 weekly applications which come in a small vial . you part the hair on the back of the neck or top of shoulders and apply directly onto the skin then wait 24hrs until it has been absorbed before you let your cat back out. it will kill the fleas on him but also stop any new ones hatching.smoke bombs for fleas are the best thing to use if you have them in the house but you and your cat have to go out for three hrs after you have set them off but at least they kill the fleas and dont leave any smell

What's everyone doing for their cats to keep them cool this summer?

My two cats, Oreo, not that I love the cookies it's just that my cat is black on the outside and has white fur on the inside and Chris have fleas and i'm alergic to fleas so I keep them outside. I feed them in the coolest part of the yard and give them ice water when its really hot! i just love my lil' furry babies!!
Answers:
Get some type of thing to remove the fleas, so that they can come back in the house. I'm pretty sure there is something to remove those fleas. By the way i have a cat myself.
Shave them
I spray them with the hose! Run cats run.run for your life! Muah ha ha ha
buy frontline plus and keep them inside idiot.
I don't have a cat, but the best thing to keep animals cool is always keep a drink near them in case their thirsty and makes sure the place is not above 80 degrees because it affects their fur quality.
You keep them outside? How is that? How about taking them to the vet and letting the vet give them the flea drops that kill fleas and then letting the poor things inside. They have on fur coats, for goodness sakes! Would you want your mother to wrap you in your fur coat and keep in outside and give you ice water and let you be eaten alive by fleas?
We allow our cat to go in and out of the cool basement during the day (where her food and water are) and then put her up in there for the night.
Treat for the fleas. Advantage works best and bring your cat inside. Mine likes to sleep near a fan. Change the water in the bowl often so it's always fairly cool, add a few ice cubes.
Can you bathe them with flea shampoo and get them flea medicine so they can come back in the house?
Get rid of the fleas, either yourself or vet. Then bring them inside. Cats do not "need" to be outside for any reason. In fact it is very dangerous for them outside. Cars, dogs, wild animals, poison, abusive people etc.
I have had cats for more than 30 yrs. and they are perfectly content indoors. They live longer are healthier, and you don't have the worries of fleas and the outside dangers.
Also, fur on animals acts as an insulation against both heat and cold.
1)Use frontline plus or some other flea and tick treatment
2) Are you saying if you weren't allergic to fleas you'd let them in the house?
3) Chill! They are cats, animals, and were meant to live outside. Leaving them outside won't kill them, and they don't, for pete's sake, need ICE WATER!!
I would have them treated for fleas and use a something like frontline to keep the fleas off of them and then keep them indoors. They are getting fleas from being outside. In general, it's not a very good idea to keep your cats outdoors as it can be very dangerous place for cat. They are much more likely to pick up diseases (like feline lukemia or feline AIDS) and the average life span for an outdoor kitty is about 8 years versus 16-20 for an indoor cat (some have been known to live even longer!).
I would recommend calling your vet and asking if they can treat a cat for fleas or what they would recommend. Once they have been treated, it's important to continue treating them with a topical solution (it's placed inbetween the shoulder blades) to keep them from getting fleas again. Your cats will be much happier without the little buggers, too!
I would not suggest keeping the cats outside in hot weather, even if it is in the "coolest part of the yard". There are flea and tick meds available through your vets, and many other providers. I've had good experiences with Frontline, Revolution [my cats are using that now], and some generic brands from wal-mart or Target.
The best thing you can do for them is to keep them inside with the AC on or at least a fan going to keep the air circulating. Put some ice cubes into their water dishes and make sure you aren't playing with them too much [strenuous activities can harm a cat in hot weather just like it can with us.] To tell if your cat is over exerting itself or it's too hot out you will see them panting.
You just love your little furry babies but you let them be flea infested outside? Did you know that cats can be allergic to fleas too? How do you think that feels for them? Buy some flea drops for them such as Advantage or frontline and put it on them! And, keep them inside!
Get rid of their fleas and then keep them inside. They should not have to stay outside in the heat because you won't get rid of their fleas.

What's easier-- grown cats or kittens?

My seven years old daughter ADORES cats and we are looking to adopt two cats or two kittiens. I am concerned about the amount of time required to care for them. Any tip to make the job easier is also appreciated.
Thank you very much
Answers:
This is just my opinion, but I think that grown cats will be easier to take care of, although they most likely won't live as long as the kittens. Some cats that are older don't like any attention at all, and will just leave you alone. But most kittens love to get affection from anyone and everyone, any time. Like I said before, though, older cats will not need as much play time and affection time as kittens.
Hope I helped!
-Lil' Princess
The best thing about cats is once you have them litter trained they pretty much are independent and can look after themselves. Grown cats can be tough to adopt...it depends on their situation before being adopted by you...you would want to make sure they were house broken, and that their previous owners kept them up to date with shots and things like that.
Kittens...will take more of your time...but might be more fun for your daughter because she will be able to raise them herself.
I've adopted both and without a doubt, grown cats. You can tell their personality right up front (kittens personalities are tough to judge) and you don't have the kitten crazies to deal with. Also the adults wait longer to get adopted so you are doing them a big favor. Go to the shelter and adopt the two friendliest adult cats you can find.
Cats, of course. But Kittens learn quickly, and they'll learn to take care of themselves and they live longer, leaving you to befreind them quicker then you can with the less playful Adult Cats.
Properly trained already housebroken adults cats...
I would say 2 kittens.Kittens get along very well with children and I think your daughter will enjoy having them.Just make sure the child handles them delicatly and kindly so it will not be afraid of them.2 Kittens will also be good because they can grow up together and also get along.Whereas 2 grown cats are sometimes harder to become friends with one another. Not only that but the kittens will grow up with your daughter, and you can be sure thats a wonderful friendship in the making.Although kittens do need more care then grown cats, kittens also sleep alot so it should be ok.Just try and have someone home alot. And being that you will get two kittens, they will mostly play with each other while people are gone, which keeps them out of alot of mischieve.Other then that just give them all the love and care you can, hope this helps :)
For a young child...kittens is the pick.
Grown cats are not always comfortable around kids (or people for that matter) and tend to pick one person or isolate themseves from a busy household. They take longer to acclimate to a new area/home.
Kittens, adjust easier, are very playful and take handling by children much better.
Cost is relatively the same for cats or kittens, though kittens may desire more toys. Cats and kittens both will sleep up to 20 hours a day though (more so for older cats).
Getting two can be a real treat and if you really want two, I dosuggest getting kittens. More playful, much more fun for the kids and there is nothing cuter than two kittens in full play mode. ( be warned, they will run full out from one end of the house to the other.)
Also, please get seperate litter boxes for them as some cats can get very picky about their toiletries and refuse to go where another cat has gone. (they are picky about their food dishes too and want seperate ones.)
The only time concern would be occasional grooming, trimming the tips of the nails and cleaning the litter box...OFTEN!! Cats do hate a dirty box.
Kittens in general will play with ANYTHING small enough to bap around the house, (mine loved twist ties) but often tend to loose items under furniture.
It is best to keep cats indoors if possible. Once a cat goes outside, there is no stopping it from forever wanting to be out.
(this especially includes the child carrying it out to show friends.)
Vet trips "require" cat carriers (one each) and it is also a good idea to have them to bring the cats home in. They don't seem to associate a carrier with being outdoors.
Definitely, Kittens. The growing and bonding of infant cats and young children is wonderful to behold. The cats will learn and the kids will learn. It's win-win.
hmmm, I would recommend two well-socialized adult cats (probably in the one to two year age range). Don't shy away from older cats, well-cared for cats can live to be 18, 19, 20 or even older! I read an article recently about a cat who is 36 years old (and still kicking!)
Kittens require more care, and at seven your daughter probably isn't mature enough to offer that care. (please don't take that the wrong way, I don't know your daughter, I'm just basing the assumption on the average seven-year-old.)
Make sure the cats are kid-friendly and get along with cats - a sibling pair would be excellent, if you can find one!
Enjoy being a cat-mom!
Grown cats would be easier at the time, but kittens are easier in the long run because you train them to your ideal cat.
Well, if you could get a pair of grown cats that are friends with each other, that'd be cool.
Even if they aren't true buddies, getting them at the same time would discourage any aggression, since they'd both
be trying to get used to new surroundings.
Kittens are wonderful and lots of fun. However- kittens tend to eat competitively (canned food)for a while (6 months old or so) which causes loose stinky poop.
Also, there are first shots, given in a series of three over a 3-4 month period, plus rabies at 4 months.
Spay or neuter by 4-5 months.
They are into and all over everything, and require a sharp and attentive eye. You have to think ahead to what they could get up to, and remove the dangers %26 temptations.
Older cats will be just as loving. Be sure you have 2 (or 3)
litterboxes, each in different places and not too near where they eat.
Leave dry food and fresh water for them all the time, and split a 3 oz. can of wet food 2x a day. They don't need a whole can.
An older cat will already be spayed or neutered, and will get so sweet! Get cat fancy magazine for your kid, too. She can learn stuff about them.
Hopefully you're adopting from your local shelter or rescue.A great cat toy is the Cat Dancer it's 4.oo and you can get it online. Even older cats can't resist it.
Good Luck!

Whats a good website to see diffrent hair styles for cats?

Be sure to groom daily for less hassle to prevent skin irriation and infection.
You're talking about a cat, not a poodle. You don't give cats hair styles. You brush them and admire them and leave them the way God made them.
Cats don't have hairstyles.
You have to brush it daily so its coat doesn't get knotty. If it does then the cat might choke on the hairball while trying to groom itself. Also make sure s/he has that cat grass to eat around the house--it helps cats regurgitate the hair they inadvertently swallow.
Get a brush with hard bristles on one side and soft on the other. That is all you need.

Whats a good time to find kittens homes?

Okay so I have 9 kittens, i had made a post 2 times about one of them that almost died, but despite so many people saying i should put the poor thing down.. he is doing WONDERFUL no problems.. hes a 100% healthy kitten.. how to my question they will be 6 weeks this coming sunday. I have a few people that want one when they are ready but when is a good time to give them away. I have heard and read very different time frames. They all are cat box trained, they have nee drinking water and eating kitten food, soft and hard for 1.5 weeks now. There are two smaller ones, the runts that I dont think will be ready, but 7 of them are big and healthy and dont even really eat on mommy all that much anymore.. would 6 weeks be okay to give them away, or should i wait until 8?
Answers:
they do say 8 weeks best but the cat protection takes thenm at 7 weeks
i got my kitten at 5 weeks old because her owner was going 2 kill her and other kitty so i got in 1 shes now 10 months old and fine so i say they should be ok
(Are you near NJ? I'm cat shopping!)
I think once they are 6 weeks old you can start giving them away from that point on. I got a kitten just a month or so ago and she has instantly become a part of the family. : )
I would think somewhere between 6-10 weeks, I know some places who keep them until they're 10 weeks old, but cat is a ferral cat and we found her abandoned when she was about 2 weeks old and shes perfectly healthy. So I think if you think they're independent, developed enough to be in a new home than they will be fine :) good luck.
right after they are born summer/ spring
They should be fine to give away now.
I had seven kittens at one point, two litters. I gave them away when they were around 2 - 2.5 months old. I suggest you give them to a shelter that doesn't kill cats if they dob't get adopted or sell them to friends and family.
Good luck finding homes for the kittens!
at around 8 weeks. :)

What's a good rememdy for cat fur balls, my cat coughs like he has a fur ball but can't get it up?

My male cat coughs occasionally, doesn't seem sick, but seems to be like a fur ball caught and can't get it up or throw it up. What is something to do to get it up for him, any good rememdy's? Also, even though he doesn't seem sick, would you still take him to the vet or see if it is the fur ball first. He's still eating, drinking water, loving just as normal just goes and hides when he coughs every now and then, and my other cats look at him funny. It's kind of a rough sounding cough, and rarely and a friend heard it and said fur ball. I don't have alot of money, but he's my baby, and if need to take him, I would spend my grocery money if need be.please help.
Answers:
Try a dab of vaseline on his paw. He will undoubtably lick it clean. Its a safe and easy way to aid in elimination of hairballs.
You can also purchase the supplement Laxatone but if the cough continues get to the vet. Have a blood panel done that includes a feline heartworm test.
hairballs r caused by the cat swallowing hair while it grooms,so if u brush its fur often, it might stop.
a tube of fur ball medicine is not that much or just put a little Vaseline on his front paws and he will lick it off and that will work also
there is a cat food that's made just for that. look at your local store.
I wouldn't worry about a trip to the vet . . . hairballs are really common. Some cats won't eat treats but if yours will you can buy cat treats formulated to help with hairballs, also some cat foods are formulated for hairball prevention. All the vet will be able to do for hairballs is sell you the gel which you can buy online or at some pet stores. Here's a link for some of the hairball treatment gels: http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/search_res...
You can buy furball remedy from the pet store. Most of them are the same. I got one from the vet's that cost 3 times as much and had exactly the same ingredients !
As long as he's still eating and drinking and acting normal I would try that first (ASAP), if it doesn't work go to the vet as he could have eaten something strange and have a partial blockage.
Hairballs are common, but nothing to take lightly. Cats can either throw them up or pass them in their stools, but the hairballs can also create genuine problems. The vet's office is the best route, especially if this is a new trouble for your guy. The hairballs come from normal grooming...the hair sticks to the cat's tongue. But if he is suddenly experiencing hairballs, there could be some change in his well-being: more stress? a problem with his coat? flea bite dermatitis, etc.
Yes, there are simple things such as changing food (some cat foods have special formulations to prevent/remove hairballs). There are supplements that dissolve or help a cat move the hairball down its throat. Gels, laxatives, tinctures, supplements, etc., many of which are inexpensive. But the safest thing is to have a vet suggest these things. If you have a vet who is familiar with your cat, he or she might suggest a first-step remedy on the phone, which could resolve the problem...and not require a visit. But you're right to be concerned.
brush him everyday to help reduce the amount of shedding hair. mine uses pounce hairball treatment and it works fine (you can get it at the grocery store). you can also get something called cat grass that you grow yourself and the cats eat it to help with digestion.
You can purchase Hairball Remedy at a Pet Store. It comes in a tube like toothpaste. If you get one that is meat flavored, he will probably just lick it right off your finger.
I give all my cats Laxatone - a flavored paste in a tube that coats the hairball in their tummies so that they can simply pass them out the other end.
If you want to encourage your cats to regurgitate the hairball, make real grass available to them - they eat it, it irritates their tums and they barf the hairball (and any food in the tum at the time) up.
Frankly, Laxatone is easier.

If I were you, I would choose the name based on the kitten's personality or, more commonly, on her coat's colourings, rather than suggestions here, because they will do a lot to add to her image and let you pick the name that reflects what she is like.
One example, is one of my kittens is orange streaked with white and black fur, who tears apart the house when she is in a playful mood; but each night, she sleeps under the sheets with me in bed, and often rests her head under my chin, so I named her Millie (or Millicent for the longer variation) because it is a sweet name that reflects her sweet nature when asleep.

What's a good name for a cat?

My mom and I are having a hard time deciding. Mind helping us?
Answers:
If you could tell us what kind of cat it is, and its color and age and sex would be a real help. Since most names are giving to animals that have something to do with the way they look, act, and things they do, you would probably get alot of answers.
We had 2 new born cats male and female both neutered and spaid and we called them Sabrina and Sabastian, becasuse they both looked alike (Cuz they came from same litter) but both had a white diamond on there chest, and they had a goth, halloween type look so Sabrina and Sabastian fit perfect.
if it's a boy cat name it cigar that's my fav

What's he look like, act like?? We have some pets named after our favorite famous people.
It really depends on your style, but here are a few of my favorites:
Female:
Nikki
Lily
Clover (this is good for a calico)
Clowie
Socks (this is for both sexes, but it fits best if he has white paws that makes him look like he's wearing socks.).
Male:
Georgie
Elvis (my cats name, especially good for "alpha males who think they're the king of the house and are big).
Tigger/Tiger (calling all striped/orange kitties)
miss kitte
tiger (to make it feel proud)
tigger (a cuter version of above)
idk really it depends what the cat looks like
Animals usually pick their own names. It may take a while, but eventually some quirk in your cat's behavior will inspire you to pick a name.
For example, I was dead set on calling my cat Spike. A month later, we knew he was a Minion.
Please add more details about the cat.
I'd recommend japanese / egyptian names because they're exotic.
Japan: Iori
Egypt: Nefertiti
My cat's name is Sebastian. And he's a gentleman
I named my kitten Tootie because when we first got him he farted waay too much when he was getting adjusted to the food.
I have 9 cats, their names are:

MONKEY, BEAR, ANT are a few cute names.
Adam, Zoo, Teddy, Abe, Zack, are some more interesting ones.
Where you looking for male names? I only have a male cat. Hope it's helpful.
Honestly choose a name that touches your heart and it has meaning to you some how.
Nermal is my cat's name. He is the side kick of Garfield.
Just look at the cat's personality, coloring, temperament, etc. Names should reflect what you see in your cat. Try something original though. You might be surprised with what you come up with. Good luck.
I personally think it's impossible to name a cat (or indeed) any type of pet until you see them
Call the kitty "Bossy" because I have never met one who did not think the world revolved around them... lol

We picked a City name that reflected the attitude of our kitty. One we found at a gas station, and she likes the outdoors, so she's got a country name: Tallulah (LA).

Whats a good litter?

What's the best litter to get? I have two kittens. The first time I bought scoopable litter, which was nice, but it didn't control the odor well at all. The second time I accidentally got an odor control kind, but it wasn't scoopable. Which is the best kind to get that combines scoopable with odor control?
Answers:
There is no litter that is going to be 100% effective in controlling odor. Contrary to claims made by several brands, it just doesn't happen. A better way to control the odor is to change what you're feeding your cats. I've found that cats fed IAMS have less stinky litterboxes than cats fed other premium foods. If you doubt it, conduct your own test. Feed your kittens any advertised brand. Note the level of stink. Then feed your kittens IAMS and within 24 hours, the litterbox will be less stinky. For litter, I like Tidy Cats for Multiple cats, scoopable, and I scoop daily. The small grains of litter are easier on the kittens' delicate little paws so they like it better.
I presently have 5 cats in my house and if you walked in my door you wouldn't know I had cats until you saw them. The cats are healthy, active, and have beautiful shiny fur. If you would like to use a deodorizer, I recommend "X-O", which can also be used for cleaning.
I don't know
My mother uses Fresh Step. I'm pretty sure it's scoopable and oderless, seeing as she scoops it all the time [and used to make me do it...grumble..] and my bathroom didnt really stink throughout my youth. I mean, unless my dad was home, but thats another story...
Heh...good luck with your kittens, they can be a handful :]
A very good cat litter is Arm and Hammer flushable cat litter. It controls odors very well, is flushable and is scoopable. Another good one is Arm and Hammer Scoopable!
the world's best cat litter is made from corn, clumps, and is good against odor
Scoopable litters can be dangerous for kittens as they tend to want to taste everything in their environment - and scoopable litter combined with moisture would turn to cement in a kittens stomach.
What I use for my three cats AND my ferrets is wood stove pellets - they're AWESOME and SOOOO cheap! I buy a 40lb bag at my local grocery store for $4.99!! I also recently discovered that my local Lowes has started carrying them - $3.99 for a 40lb bag! :-0!! They're exactly the same product as the commercial pine cat litters like "Feline Pine" - but for about an EIGHTH of the price! They totally absorb the urine and eliminate all odor. When the pellets have all broken down to sawdust (about a week with three cats using two boxes) I dump the boxes and the sawdust dumps out dry - nothing clinging to the sides.
FYI - NOTHING eliminates cat poop odor - you need to scoop that out daily. Also, all the local cat shelters and ferrets shelters around here (WA) use the wood stove pellets - nothing beats them!
Tidy cat crumble free cat litter for multiple cats. I use that for my cat and I only have one cat and it holds back the smell and I also scoop it out 2 times a day and it does not smell.
I use Fresh Step Scoopable Litter. I also have a covered litter box (my cat otherwise sprayed the wall when using the litter box), and this also helps with the smell. If you scoop it frequently the litter can last up to a month without becoming smelly.

Whats a good collar brand for pets?

i have a kitty and hes old enough now to start wearing a collar although im not really sure whats a nice brand for him to have ..i feel like all the ones i see at petco or petsmart are cheap looking with funny graphics or fluorescent colors (my cat is black and white)..also online doesnt really help ..its too confusing with every site looking the same.
whats a REALLY nice brand i was even looking at the burberry ones but i feel like thats doesnt match my kitty ..im sorry to sound so picky but i truly want only the best for my cat.. like is there a crazy ones that celebs give their pets?...picking the food took a while too lol
i just love my new baby :]
Answers:
The ebay link below is to the best cat/kitten collars in the world. There is lots of variety, all the collars have break away clasps, and they are comfortable for kitty. They are also machine washable.
The bad news is that right now she isn't selling anything. I'd check back in a week or so. Her stuff is absolutely worth it. I've bought about 5 collars from her and I'm looking to purchase some more.
The other link shows one of my kittens with two different collars by Cheryloq so you can see what they are like.
Make sure its a breakaway collar, its a common safety item for cats. They unclip if kitty gets hung up or caught by her collar. Breakaway collars protect your cat when you let her outside or inside. They also give you a little peace of mind for times when she bolts out of an open door before you can stop her. However, breakaway collars should not be used with leads.

Whats a better cat name?

1. Spooky maybe for a black cat.
2. Dusty maybe for a gray cat.
Answers:
shadow for the black cat and dusky for the Grey 1
I named my tortoise color cat who snorts and does not meow - harley.
I had a gray cat named Willow. I think the names you have chosen are too common.
kitkat is my black catts name
a good gray catt name might be smokes instead of smokey
smokes is a cool name
maybe'' harry
Smokey
midnight etc..
I think Butterscotch is a really cute name for a toffee-toned cat...I also think it would be hilarious to have a black cat named Elvis. Indigo would be another cool name, Try to get creative with the naming process. I always find unique names to be more fitting than the average Spot. However, both the names you listed would work for cats. I would suggest that you find a cat you like and then pick names - it's hard to come up with names for a pet you haven't seen yet.
those are good names. I always choose something that is different. My calico is called Zodiac and my black cat is Hector. My mom names her cats after old war heros. She named our cat Shelby because one of the generals was called Shelby Foote and our cat has 6 toes, so Shelby "big" foote. :)
Dusty
I would make a list of all your cats qualities and then imagine what a person would be named who was like that, or look in a baby book. I prefer odd names because I have never had a normal cat. Is there such thing as a normal cat? Just like with a baby, beware of the cute name that just doesn't apply to the mini lion that it might become.
When I worked at the humane society, 90% of black cats were named either Spooky, Midnight or Jinx
Gray cats were often either Misty or Graymalkin.
I think Spooky is adorable! I could picture a cat being named Spooky, its cute! Dont go with Dusty, some guys are named that. Its a cat, Spooky is creative and no a human name.
You're question is confusing! There is only one answer for each question...
dusty
I think that Dusty is a better name for a cat cause if I had to choose between those two name I would choose Dusty because I think it sounds better.
Spooky is an excellent song by the Classics IV, a clich茅 name for a black cat. Maybe Dusty would be a good name for a black
Dusty is OK for a gray cat, I guess. I have a gray cat and his name is Satan. Jerk that he is.

maybe something similar to that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jaykw-x6...
My cat "yells" at me when I get home. I always imagine she is saying "Where have you been all day, I had to occupy myself, get off the phone and pay attention to me and I need some treats and please pet me and dont ever leave again" She has separation anxiety I think. I cant even go to the bathroom with the door closed because she screams like she is about to die and tries to pull the door open.
The cat would probably say"you are so good to me". My cat is my love. when I go to my computer room, I only have to look down and there she is setting close to my feet. If I wiggle my toe, I feel her fur, I look down and there she is.
If it's 6am on a Sunday morning, I imagine it'll be something like this...
"MOM! WAKE UP AND FEED ME NOW! MOM... ARE YOU AWAKE YET... BREAKFAST TIME! FEED ME... MOOOMMM, I'M STARVING... FEED ME!"

What would you think if your veterinarian accidentally declawed your outdoor cat?

Answers:
Ummm, this is unlikely.
Declawing is a surgery that requires paperwork, anesthesia release forms, and usually a signed estimate explaining what you are being charged for. A vet will usually ask for a deposit of at least half before doing the actual surgery.
So I'm sorry, but I think you are full of shtt. There is no way a vet could preform such a drastic surgery on your cat by accident.
i would filp out and never go to that vet again. and he would now be an indoor cat
The cat would need to become an indoor cat, or a watched outdoor cat. A cat without claws can't defend itself. You could also contact your state's Humane Society and find out how this vet can be held responsible for his actions. It's serious because now your cat's life is going to be totally changed.
i'd think that the vet would be a freaking retard and needs to get a life that doesn't involve intereaction with animals, or involving declawing of cats...
*have a good day!
Id think he was an idiot but whats done is done. I don't know if you can report him to any association.
Never go back to him again and keep your kitty inside.
It can't defend itself outside any longer and it can live out a healthy happy life just as well inside as out.
Change vets. Hope he didn't charge you!
P.S. As long as your cat still has his/her back claws and teeth, he can still protect himself.
I would be furious. Declawing is the equivalent of torture. They amputate the first joint of their toes. How does a vet accidentally perform surgery and a lengthy one at that! Your cat should definately be an indoor cat from now on since it has no claws to defend itself. You also need to find a new vet. Would a doctor be able to get away with saying I accidentally removed your leg?
How could they accidentally declaw? Was the cat in for a check up and got declawed instead? I would be upset. The poor cat wouldn't really be able to live outside any longer.
I WOULD BE PISSED !!!?! do you know declawing is illegal in some places ( england , australia , aisa and some other places ! its so painful to the cat there is no way it was an accident ask him how the hell did he do that !? thats a sin poor thing withh probaly die cats are born with claws for a reason ! to protect them selves now he probaly cant even climb a tree when a dog attacks so hes probaly gonna die if he incounters a larg unfriendly dog !! :( :( well i over ecagerated sorry but if a dog does attack he will probaly die !!
I mean no disrespect towards you, but I believe that NO pet cat should be an outdoor cat. Any cat coming into the house from outside could be bringing in any number of undesirable orginisms. Also, a cat can only be so smart. They are not as smart as even the youngest child. A pet owner has the responsibility to keep the animal safe from harm and I'd never deliberately expose my cat to the outdoors, especially on the loose. I see too many dead cats on the roads and I always curse the owner who lets his (supposedly beloved) pet run around loose.
De-clawing is barbaric and its unwise to let your cat go out doors. I hope your kitty has be altered? I would contact the vet and ask how he/she is going to make this horrible mistake up to you and your kitty. Maybe you could suggest free spay/neutering for some cats.
That is unreal : o There are online places where you can complain about services you received...I would at least do that and see if there is a form of Better Business Bureau that you could report him to. I would wish there could be a lawyer you could hire to get you out of the bill, but I would definitely not go back if possible.
On the positive side, my sister has an indoor/outdoor elderly male cat that can still climb trees and hold his own despite the fact that he was declawed when they got him. You may want to babysit kitty initially, but it isn't hopeless : )
I would take the vet to court. An "accidental surgery" is hugely negligent and I'd be furious at the vet for maiming my cat.
Yes it would bother me at first but I would get over it.
http://www.geocities.com/declawing.index...
I don't believe that this is a real question. I don't think any vet would be that stupid.
If you didn't schedule any major surgery I'd consider this something reportable. If they're mixing up kenneled cats I can't imagine what the OTHER one got that was scheduled for the declaw surgery.
Report the vet, don't pay the bill they hand you for it (if they did legit things, pay those but not the declawing or anesthetic charges), get a full copy of your vet records on all animals and change vets.

Answers:
You can also make it a bed in your frontyard with food and water
Maybe you can take it to the local vet to be checked for a microchip? I take it there's no tag, btu you may want to check with local vets and the pounds around to the area to see if there have been any cats reported missing.
Leave some food out for the poor thing, and if it's still hanging around near dinnertime, or looks underfed, maybe put out a little bit of tinned tuna for it?
good luck!
Totally agree - leave the poor thing some food %26 water! But I'd not take it into your home if you have other pets. Put up a sign around your new place or knock on some doors in the area or even ask your new apartment manager (if this is an apartment) about the cat, you might get ownership answers that way.
Some people will just leave behind pets when they move. I adopted a kitty that way. Sadly I had to leave her when I moved too because she didn't want to go! But she was the same way, sweet, adorable, loving like crazy, and she had a weird non-meow, too. I just put out a waterproof box for her in the winter, put out a handful of food every day, and she was fine for over a year until we had to move.
You could always put a collar on him with a tag that says "call this # if I'm yours so I'm not accidentally adopted" ;-)
Unfortunately, if it were me, I'd leave the baby outside, and just put out food and water and give her attention when i see him because I already have 5 cats that've wormed their way into my heart %26 home, and the fighting with them is bad enough, I can't add another indoor kitty. =(
Yes by all means take him to a vet and take care of and help him i mean there is no way one can just let him suffer
I had this same thing happen to me for the first couple of days i wouldn't let her in the house i would pet her and stuff but i got worried that something was wrong with her so i took her to the vet for a check up it wasn't very expensive thank god! the vet said she was fine i put an add in the paper no one replyed so i kept her it was the best thing i have ever done she is so sweet and loving and never once had an accident this is the best cat i have ever had! You really should keep the cat!
Maybe you should get in contact with the people that used to live there. the cat could be thers and its come 'home' or accidently been left behind. or it could be a neighbours cat ofcourse. lots of cats are affectionate it doesnt mean its stalking you. you should just ask your neighbours or the previous residents, otherwise take it to get the microchip checked its sure to have one.
Ask around before making any decisions. Perhaps your neighbours know this cat as well. Sounds like he is owned by someone as you said he was really affectionate. Cats do tend to wander around alot so he probably knows where his home his. If you leave food out the cat will be at your house all the time so make sure this is what you want. Look at his general condition, does he appear well fed, what sort of condition is his coat in. If he looks fine then he probably belongs to someone. If not then i'm guessing he's homeless.
take it to a local vet to check for a chip, keep it for now to keep it safe from other things, and put up signs saying for cat, and describe it. put your contact info at the bottom! give it water not milk, you dont need to keep inside, just keep taking care of it! hope that helps!
I would ask around to see if the cat belongs to someone. But it is highly likely that someone that moved simply abandoned their pet. (That happens a great deal around colleges.) In most places, from a legal standpoint, once the pet leaves your property, it is fair game. I would put out food if you think you would like to adopt it. Once you make the decision, then take the cat to a vet to have it checked. It could have a chip. Or he could have a problem, and need some medical care, such as fleas, worms, ear mites, or other things. You do not want to welcome any pet into your home that might bring something adverse to your other pets.
